Really? I could swear from the post data you were posting from the same address as Robert.

Has this become the Smith-Smythe-Smith Prize for Unseen Translation (French)? If so, I think we may need a harder text next time, Jeff.

How 'bout noooo that wasn't the jist. I was responding to Robert's initial post that the thread is "pour les français" - why not open it up to all people from French-speaking countries and those for whom French is not their native tongue?

J'ai le malheur de vous rappeler d'ailleurs qu'aucun français participe sur ce site - un fait qui rendrerait cette piste redondante sinon.

However, if you would like a harder text, I can certainly dig one out. Would you like one with historical value and sector-specific vocab not found in a standard Collins-Robert, perhaps?

Jeff

I have the misfortune to remind you also that no French people participates on this site - a fact that makes this thread if not redundant.

I take this opportunity though[1] to remind you that no French person participates on this site - a point which would otherwise render this thread redundant.

[1] "D'ailleurs" would emphasise the intended negative context but "avoir malheur" is very personally possessive and doesn't translate well into our modest English.

Just spotted a grammatical error. I should've put a "ne" between "français" and "participe" - ne aucun inverted.

Kunpa minulla olisi toinen äidinkieli! Yksikielisyys on äärrettömän tylsää…varsinkin jos vain osaa englantia…

Sorry, wrong 'F' language.

Assuming it refers to the language or nation, how come "englantia" figures in that translation?

I was trying to say "If only I had a second native language! Monolingualism is infinitely boring…especially if one only knows English" (i.e., as I do). (Mostly just for the sake of making a semi-on-topic post in the French thread but in Finnish. :D)
