How autistic are you?

Post by Michael Wallace »

Step 1) Go here.
Step 2) Fill in your answers.
Step 3) Find out your 'Autism Spectrum quotient".
Step 4) Report back here with your score, not forgetting to complain about how bad a test it is.
Step 5) ...
Step 6) Profit.

(I got 38, which seemed a bit high...)

I got 24, which is markedly above average while not being orty as such. I'd say that's about true. I'd like to see some more statistical breakdowns e.g. whether the average is higher amongst people with degrees, men of a certain age, and so on.

I got 14, so I'm average for a woman.
But also, autism doesn't exist. There is no biological difference that can be tested for that you can then look at and say "there's the autism bit. Should we cut it off or leave it in?"
All psychological disorders are inventions for us to kid ourselves that people different to us are malfunctioning.
From the test, 13) Like going to a library more than a party? Then there's something wrong with your brain. 19) Enjoy maths? Then you must have been born prematurely or something, because you're messed up.

32. Not a trememdous surprise, but to my knowledge I've never received any label. I was slightly amused by the theatre/museum question. Many good museums are still free to enter, which I think makes the choice quite easy.

You seem to be taking this rather seriously. Are you sure that score is right?

I got 24 - which is above average, which I'm surprised at because I'm very sociable. And as I was answering the questions I had no sense of falling into anything other than 'normal' category. I'm also pretty independent, and do do things the way they suit me especially as I've been single for 5 years so I don't know if that translates as unsociable. Who knows?

Lost interest now.

Sheventeen. Thats one bit of autism for every year of my life.
I think There were about 8 or 9 answers where i wasnt sure what to pick between 2 answers, so I could have got a few points either side of what i did.

My friends wont believe that i got "normal" on an autism test, they all think i'm a right spazwoid.

30, which surprises me slightly.

I suppose I did spot that one of the questions has words transposed, and I am a statistician who particularly dislikes his phone ringing at work.

See if you can find the question :)

Yeah, I'm about to take it now and a quick skim seems to reveal that the questions are all basically "Are you autistic?" Look at the first one - "I prefer to do things with others rather than on my own." Bollocks question. What things? It depends. Someone's answer could depend on how autistic they want to end up.

@ Gavin, it's as good a test as any. It finds out how far you are from the test-writer's opinion of normality, which is what proper autism tests do just as well.

Autism is usually correlated with high IQ, so I think you're safe.

Edit: Before anyone leaps to his defence, I should point out that I love Kirk dearly and my constant mocking of his low intelligence, ugly face and poor sexual performance is just to rebalance his ego after Series 60.

I started on 8 but then I tried again and whittled it down to 1. I reckon if the government gave away free iPods to autistics like they do to dyslexics, I'd be able to fake it no problem.

I scored 29, though I agree with the post above that this may be skewed even though consciously I tried to answer honestly and think of situations from which I could most accurately draw my conclusions.

I got 38, although I suspect that I subconsciously gave the Autistic answer to a few questions. A combination of my dyspraxia, Catholic upbringing / restrictive parents and childhood medical problems have probably weakened my social skills to a point where I come up higher than I am on this.

The autistic guy on last night's X Factor was really rather good. (Yes, the build-up to his appearance was shamelessly emotionally manipulative blah blah blah. I loved it. I just hope the poor guy doesn't end up as the next Susan Boyle, complete with press hounding, global adoration and subsequent backlash.)

Oh, and speaking of last night's telly, I hope the disembowelled raccoon on Harper's Island didn't cause too many nightmares.

Never had much interest in X Factor but if the program has done any good I'd have to say it's introducing people to the idea that not everyone who can sing looks like Britney Spears (and indeed vice versa). Although the press treat this with great surprise every time it happens, I imagine the public spotted the trend a while ago.

This reminds me of a girl who bragged to me that her bra size was further into the alphabet than her name. Which is fairly impressive, when you think that her name was Francesca.
