Our bathroom scales needed a new battery, so I opened them up and discovered it was one of those flat circular ones, number 2032. '2032' also happens to be the name of the latest album by Gong, and is the year the pothead-pixies from planet Gong are coming in their flying teapots to save humanity. This will happen just about 21 years from now, and I was just about aged 21 years when I got married to Cheryl. Now Cheryl is the mother of Scott who happens to be another player on Apterous. He's 25 now, and 25 stone is about the combined weight of Scott and his mum, according to our digital bathroom scales.
Amazing run of coincidences, eh?

Don't make the same mistake I initially did and pay around £4 to buy these individually from a watch repairer's. You can buy them online, in bulk, for 25p each or less. They're useful to have around, as it seems like more and more small appliances use them these days - I've recently had to replace batteries in both my keyring torch and the head torch I use for reading in bed and they both turned out to need a couple of 2032s.

Yeah, I usually just throw things away if they need replacement batteries and they don't take AAs. But I got a load of 2032s from Amazon. Best thing ever.

My youngest has some gadgets that take these, and a Duracell two pack cost me around £5 from Tesco IIRC.

Yes, Pierre Moerlen died in 2005, but they're still going. Caught them live in Glasgow last year with Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth, Steve Hillage, and Miquette Giraudy included in the line-up. Awesome concert, with Daevid Allen jumping about like a lunatic even although he must be in his early 70s, and great support act in the form of Nik Turner's Space Ritual. Terrific night!
It was refreshing to be at a gig and not be the oldest one there (not even close, that particular night!).

And thanks for the tip about the batteries. I had bought a pack of two, which wasn't very cheap.

Never seen Gong live; never really been that into them to be honest, although I do have a CD copy of the album Time is the Key by Pierre Moerlen's Gong, which I now discover is not (quite) the same group. (Wikipedia usefully tells me: "The album is jazz-fusion and has little to do with the psychedelic space rock of Daevid Allen's Gong, even though the bands share a common history.")

However, I did see both Pierre and his brother Benoit playing percussion in Mike Oldfield's Wembley Arena concert in 1979. Watching them jumping around, behind, in front of, under and over each other to play the massively complicated and multi-layered vibraphone section from Incantations was quite something.

ULEVERTON was the scramble". Was a surreal moment...I remember watching this game in the studio, and to think his daughter now works with me. When I asked "it's not leverton is it?" implies her surname isn't Leverton and when she said her dad's surname (being different to hers) implied she's married. So, no, it didn't.

My next door neighbours got married on the same day in 1989 as me.
I have written one letter to the Daily Telegraph in my life, as a 16-year-old. 2 years later when I met my first boyfriend he told me he had written one letter to the Telegraph too - his was published and mine, which wasn't, was in reply to his.

That's a lot of inferences for the reader to make though. I assumed it more likely that, being a new girl, you simply didn't know her surname yet.

That's pretty cool Lisa. I recently bought disney's robin hood on dvd (for a girl i like) and when I came out of the shop and walked round the corner, a violinist was playing Bryan Adams' hit from the Kevin Costner movie. There have been a few startling coincidences happening around me of late. I was listening to an obscure song by ween in my mate's house and when I'd gotten home, the above girl had posted it on the internet, randomly, around the same time, for example. But this one takes the prize: I contacted an old friend I met in Sweden in 2005. She was living with my friend who I was visiting for the summer, so I lived with her for about 6 weeks and we became good friends. Their relationship ended in acrimony however not all that long afterwards and we lost touch. I hadn't spoken to her since 2005, until December first this year, where, after a few messages back and forth having reconnected on facebook, we had a skype. She introduced me to her husband who was pottering about and we chatted for about an hour. She asked me about music so I was telling her what I was up to. As I've mainly been playing with my friend Dave, I sent her a link to his last home recorded album, which ends with a minor version of silent night, as it was put out at Christmas time. I suggested they stick that song on, given it was the first day of advent and all. She did and suddenly started slightly freaking out as this wasn't the first time she'd heard it. Her little sister had discovered the accompanying video on youtube last christmas, loved it, and insisted the family all watch it. She still had it bookmarked in her favourites. As I remember it the letter to the Torygraph was about a mathematical query - can't remember what - and the reason I thought Jon's answer was wrong and replied was that there was a misprint in his letter. We broke up about a year later after he left University and went to live in Devon.

Don't highlight if you haven't seen the end of season two and most of season three.

Anyway, In my college earlier today there was an annoying fly buzzing around one of the classrooms and a similar thing was happening in the Breaking Bad episode that was on tonight, annoying Hank and Jesse in their meth lab. Immediately I was thinking that was a nice coincidence but it gets even better. During the ad break I went downstairs to check something on the computer and all of a sudden the breaker trips and the power goes out. I switch the breaker back on and go back to watch the end of the episode. In the show Walt is just about to swat the fly when the power goes out in the lab. Then, to top it all off Walt also tells Jesse the story about meeting Jane's Dad in a bar the night she died and wondering if it all could have just been a coincidence. Freaky

Just had possibly one of the weirdest coincidences ever in my life.

I was just watching some old reruns of Only Connect on YouTube, and one of the music rounds was based on actors. I was quite pleased that I recognised 2 of the 3 pieces played. The second was some random one called Marilyn Monroe which meant nothing to me whatsoever.

I then (literally straight after the round) decided to start doing some revision for English Lit, where one of my texts is Blood Brothers by Willy Russell, which I borrowed from the library literally two hours ago - I had not read any of it, and only the briefestof synopses online. It was in a pile of about 4 books. I randomly-ish picked out Blood Brothers, and the page I picked out randomly had, where my fingers had fatefully landed, the transliterated lyrics to the song Marilyn Monroe.

Mind = Blown.

Here's an addition but nowhere near as good. Whilst on my school placement for teaching one of the school's staff remarked at how tall I was when passing me in the corridor (this was our first encounter). I was then putting in a shift at Sainsbury's the following evening and I served him! The Sainsbury's I work at is in the centre of the city about 10 miles from the school I was in, so quite coincidental I'd say.

So, I got a call at work last night from an ex colleague, chancing his arm that i'd be on. He was after seeing a Cork musician (who lives in New York) do a gig in Prague on his short Euro tour, having taken a bus from Munich, where he now lives, yesterday, got that? Ok. Well, a mate of mine from Prague, who I put onto this Cork man a good few years back, Niall Connolly if you're interested (he's a great guy), brought his wife to the gig, not planning on missing it seeing as Niall only comes around once a year or so. Still with me? Good. So of course, they got sat at the same table and after a bit of chat, made the connection, hence the call, just after the gig. Great stuff. Not as bizarre a coincidence considering the music connection, but still very cool.

Though I am primarily a Dundalk fan, like most Irish people I grew up with an interest in English football. I followed Liverpool from a young age (I grew up in the 80s, what do you expect). From the early 90s I was a semi-regular visitor to Anfield. Later in the mid-90s I spent a year working in England and was a regular visitor to watch Reading at Elm Park. So they are the two English clubs I have some affinity with.
Anyway, one Saturday in 1996 on my way to a match in Reading there was an exhibition of football photography on somewhere in Reading town centre, so I went for a quick look. One photographer had created postcards from photos of various grounds around the UK, generally offbeat and interesting photos. He generally had one postcard per club/stadium, so without passing much heed I bought the Liverpool and Reading ones. Later when I got home I had a look at them. The Liverpool one looked familiar... it showed the Centenary Stand being built over the existing stand, so it dated from 1991-92. When I looked at the back I was amused to see that the picture had been taken at Liverpool v Spurs, March 1992, which just happened to be my first ever game at Anfield. It was also taken from the main stand, and that was the only game I’ d watched at Anfield from the main stand. I was pleased and amused with the interesting coincidence. I then picked up the Reading postcard. It was a more recent photo- from that season in fact. It looked familiar. I checked the back of the postcard. Reading v Ipswich Town, 1995-96 taken from the Tilehurst End of the ground, which, you’ve guessed already, was the first game I’d seen at Elm Park and the only one I’d ever watched from the Tilehust End.
