I suspect that everyone's concept of them differs from everyone else's, Steven. That's the trouble with soundbite politics.

Binge drinking, casual racism dressed up as jingoism, occasional mindless violence, the unshakable belief that this country is permanently "going to the dogs" yet everywhere else is worse, unnecessarily narrow roads, pessimism, sarcasm, knife crime and teenage pregnancy. Woop!

If only you had gone a little more overboard on the racism theme to the point of being ludicrous, and then removed all the humour from your post, you'd have practically written Bradley's weekly blog for him.

The fact you're all mentioning negative things says quite a lot unfortunately - not a criticism of you guys, just a sadly accurate reflection of things!

My things were all positive, except the roads. Sarcasm, binge drinking, mindless violence and teenage pregnancy are par for the course when Mark Deeks is in town. This competitive anagrammer knows how to have a good time.

An obsession with the notion of British values.
Possibly the first contestant to accelerate with a mic clipped...

Have you considered that we might think that the concept is utter bollocks and be subverting the thread?

Subversion of the thread is just a coping mechanism for you Ian. Yet another sadly accurate reflection of things.

That's sadly accurate.

While waiting for the first race at Royal Ascot, I have been wondering, is nauseating sycophancy towards the Royal family a British value?

Eh, they're our national identity. Counts for something. Americas is their military so I'd rather have ours.

And what do you mean by national identity? Is it: If you ask 100 random foreigners what they associate with the UK, what would be the top answer? And if the royal family come top it makes the sycophancy acceptable? By that logic we should be sycophantic towards football hooliganism if it came top.

Take a bow Clare Balding, I'm sure a Damehood can't be far away for your services to Royal obsequiousness!
