How did the votes work? You say first preferences, so was it AV or something?

Single Transferrable Vote.(STV)
One vote, but as many candidates as you like, in order of preference.

OK. But first preferences aren't everything, so having most first preferences doesn't mean you should automatically get the most seats, if that's what you're saying. There was a debate along similar lines on here somewhere...

The biggest party getting almost a quarter fewer seats than the next biggest, still seems a little odd, even allowing for the transferring procedure.
However, the most shocking statistic was the poor turnout, just under 52%, maybe it's time to "bribe" people to vote, say £10 worth of scratch cards!

Granted 52% is poor, but turnout elsewhere was as low as 33%!

Having watched the candidates on Spotlight last week, I wasn't left feeling overly reassured or confident.
