Spoilers for Wednesday March 20th 2013 (Series 68 Prelim 9)

Post by Jordan F »

...yeah, we'll just pretend I didn't call the last prelim number 12. Moving onward and forward, Andy Platt got a very impressive score of 114 yesterday. Can he continue this standard with another win today?

Looking forward to the excuses for every non-maxed round.

Excellent play from Andy again. Well done!

Can someone provide me with the numbers selection and target for the 2nd numbers round please? I flicked channels when Origins of Words came on and didn't switch over in time!

Cheers, I got fewer maxes than yesterday but it was a harder game I think. Still no takers on the missed max in round 1?? :geek:

Round 10 was 25 10 4 1 4 5 @651

I've had a sneaky look at it using the apterous solver but I'll let someone else take the credit. All I can say is, bad miss! :D :P

Awesome. Dunno if I would've had the balls to stick an S on the end.

I did not even see Samurai because I fixated on Marussia since I am a fan of F1. Obviously I knew that would not be in, but even if I had seen Samurai I would have either ruled it our as capitalised, or tried adding an S to it!

Very well played Andy. I loved the gasps from the audience when you declared a 9. :)

For the GRAPEVINE round you said "Safe 7" were you thinking grape-vine might be hymenated or did you just have a dodgy 8?

I was surprised that John got the conundrum first, and wonder whether he would have been pleased or actually sad not to have achieved a top 5 lowest ever score? As it is he'll still get a listing on the Wiki. 8-)

If Andy had got Grapevine and the conundrum I think that would have been 133 - pretty awesome really. Dunno what the max was?

Cheers man - SAMURAIS was one I considered but I thought maybe I remembered it being invalid from practice. In the GRAPEVINE round it was REPAVING that I considered - also invalid, glad I made that decision as it sounds very plausible. Nowhere near GRAPEVINE sadly! Too good from Damian & Susie & co.

John was a good guy - I liked him, he came out with me, Phil, and Chris (Marshall) afterwards, and I was happy for him to get the conundrum and the audience were too. I was transfixed on the LY or INGLY suffix whereas he was going after -ING, so fair play to him. Also during the round 4 to round 5 board transition, he also said he considered and dismissed QUEENIEST too, which is a shame.

There were 146 points available if I maxed the game

How come I got 149 as the max then :?: :P

Nice work again, AP. You also made a semi-record by becoming only the 2nd player after Graeme Cole to win a match at round 10.

Did you add ten points for round 5 when it was impossible?

Which round was this comment? I did watch it all but might have accidentally missed some of the talking when fast-forwarding some clock time.

Mark was talking about my post in the Tuesday thread - in fairness it did sound like I was somehow making excuses for the stuff I missed, but I only thought it was natural - I was quite disappointed with some of the rounds I've played! Oh well. Nobody's perfect (except Conor)

Yeah, it's (nearly) always interesting to hear any stuff beyond what we see on TV. Keep on.
