B'day Championship Spoilers For Tuesday February 19th 2013

Post by James Robinson »

So, I'm now 25 years and 1 day old. :P

Well, after these last few weeks, I'm surprised I'm not double that age now :!: :!:

The last 2 episodes have proved how amazing and how heartbreaking this game show we love can be, but this spectacle which has only 9 episodes to go is starting to run out of unused superlatives to describe the excitement and unbridled joy that has been displayed over the past 6 weeks.

And while it finishes in 10 days time, we must not forget how brilliant it has been and how much of a standardbearer it can be for another tournament like this, if we ever have one of these again...................... 8-)

But now, onto today's game, the penultimate Round 2 match between Christine Hunt, the last female in the tournament, against the luckiest contestant left in the tournament, the Series 66 champion, Jack Worsley.

Here are the stats:

Firstly, Series 4 Runner-Up & CoC I Quarter-Finalist & Supreme Championship Group Quarter-Finalist Christine Hunt - 10 Games, 6 Wins, 474 Points (Average: 47.4 - Not Including Masters Game Or Tie-Break Conundrum, But Includes 14 Rounder Grand Final)
Highest Score: 88* vs. Sandie Simonis (30BC Round 1 - 15 Rounder) / 56 vs. Philip Barlow (2nd Game - 9 Rounder)
Lowest Score: 31 vs. Joyce Cansfield (CoC Quarter-Final)
9's Achieved: 0/2
Total Points/Max/%: 474/829 (57%)
Letters Points/Max/%: 295/489 (60%)
Numbers Points/Max/%: 139/230 (60%)
Conundrum Points/Max/%: 40/110 (36%)

Secondly, Series 66 Champion Jack Worsley - 12 Games, 12 Wins, 1,168 Points (Average: 97.33)
Highest Score: 110 vs. Catherine Green (3rd Game)
Lowest Score: 75 vs. Mark Murphy (Quarter-Final)
9's Achieved: 2/7
Total Points/Max/%: 1168/1497 (78%)
Letters Points/Max/%: 780/1020 (76%)
Numbers Points/Max/%: 338/357 (95%)
Conundrum Points/Max/%: 50/120 (42%)

Well done Jack, just two points away from a max there I believe, very well done to you. Glad you didn't fall for the conundrum trick like Christine (...and I) did. Christine did as well as she could, but Jack wouldn't have lost to many today. Also well done to Nick for getting one of the Jack beaters.

Fun last numbers alt: (6+4) x 9 + 75

Well played Jack. 8-)

I think I have to get a new telly or a hearing aid I still can't hear the challenger's buzzer well, it was very very faint, the champion's buzzer was very clear though

Well played Jack, solid performance there. Well done too Christine; it's a shame that there are no ladies in the quarter-finals.
Mike Brown: "Round 12: T N R S A E I G U

C1: SIGNATURE (18) ["9; not written down"]
C2: SEATING (7)
Score: 108–16 (max 113)

Another niner for Adam and yet another century. Well done, that man."

I was pleased to beat Jack on the PUTTIES round, as I had learned that at the first Countdown evening we did
in Reading a couple of years ago (before COREA).

Jack played well, but he did look nervous though; maybe he thought he had the most to lose if his opponent won?

Rachel must have had a good Sunday night on the town, if she had forgotten the last time where the winner got less than a hundred, as it had only been the previous morning!

Wasn't it PUTTIED?

And yeah, well played Jack, very solid performance. (I also fell for HARPSICORD)

There wasn't a conundrum trick - you just can't count! :P

Weird that we were actually talking about the word RHAPSODIC a night or two before (can't remember who exactly was there, definitely Jack H, not sure about Jack W). Maybe Jack or indeed anyone that drinks less than me (so, anyone) can shed some light on it - weird coincidence there.

It's spelt HARPSICHORD by the way, but still not quite on a par with the 12-letter conundrum guesses.

Just 9 replies in this thread as I get to it. A massive spoiler in itself of course.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I hadn't seen Christine's previous game at the time which made it more difficult. She certainly turned out to be a very good opponent and a lovely person too. Fortunately I managed to get off to a good start because the latter parts were fairly close. Winning was always the priority but finally beating my high score was a nice bonus. I thought the chance had gone though when Christine buzzed in and she was very unlucky not to get the conundrum.

Funner still is (7+4)×(6+9) = 165.

Also (6×3+6)×(50-9) = 984 as a nice alternative in the first numbers.
