Spoilers for Tuesday 10th January 2012 (Series 66, Prelim 2)

Post by Ryan Taylor »

It's Nick's second show, Jack Worsley's third show and it will be good that's four show.

Little in-game to play: Which phrase will be said by Nick most? Very good or well done?

I'm hoping he starts saying 'well good'.

He's used to dealing with incompetent would-be apprentices, so it's hardly surprising to see him lavishing praise on intelligent people like Susie, Rachel and the wunderkinder in the champion's chair.

YATTERING in R4. If Nick thinks this normal-seeming challenger is weird (and openly states it), I'm lucky he wasn't the host when I was on. Can you imagine?

I love the way Nick says "well done" or "very good" after the contestant has picked the letters. Not sure if he is congratulating the contestant or Rachel.

CHANNEL 4 +1 AND ONWARDS

... same as above plus:

You guys are so critical!

I really enjoyed Nick's early banter n chit chat, and his dryness of humour and droll demeanour really add a new frisson.

PS yesterday's Guardian blog (see spoilers) was most interesting

When he's settled in, he'll rock!

What say you?

I assumed he meant to say "weird activity" or similar and just said the wrong word (refering to climbing waterfalls).

Sorry, lost count early on. But I'm a musician, so can only count up to 4 (on a good day).

NECROSIS in the NEUROSIS round, and JACKER in the MOCKER round. Lexplorer (is it in the dictionary yet?) gives JACKER an obscurity rating of 100% (very rare). Seems odd, though I can't say I've used it. NETIZEN, on the other hand, is only 85% obscure.

It was indeed, I saw it too, with no conviction, but happy with it nonetheless.

VADOSE in round 2, DOLMADES in round 6, CATERAN in round 8, RIGHTEN in round 9 and URODELE in round 12.

1st Numbers Alt.: ((75 - 50) x 25) - 100 - 1 = 524
3rd Numbers Alt.: ((7 x 6) + 4 + 1) x 9 = 423

Yes, only cos I remember it from last year's CoLei semi-finals, when Rich Priest got it ahead of me then. :geek:

Nick is starting to get the hang of it a bit better now. It will obviously take time for him to fully integrate himself, but he's doing a fairly decent job so far, and can only get better.

Well done again Jack. Very well done. ;) :) :D

I love the way Nick says things like "stand back" when he starts the clock. I hope he gives them a bit more 'warning' before starting the conundrum soon, though, but I'm sure that will happen or the contestants will simply get used to it in time.

The target was 524.

TREEING in round 9.
I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.

Wat lots of people have said. Slowly warming to Nick after turning on midgame and seeing him struggle to read the teaser. I'm sure it's only a matter of time til the nerves settle though and he'll shine through.
Well done Nick. Well done everyone in fact.
Debut rating: 7 thumbs up

Oh yeah and MADDOXES in the moddle round.

Jack, when the deck of cards was passed to you, did you by any chance get a look at more than one card? I'm guessing he did a deck switch after the shuffle and that (apart from the bottom card) they were all the same.

No, I only remember looking at one card.
