Spoilers for Friday, 5th September

Post by Joseph Bolas »

It's an equaller, but EEJIT is a nice alternative word for round 1.

Anyone notice when Des was about to start the clock for round 3, the selection was different for a microsecond and suddenly changed along the bottom.
Bad editing !

Bizarro alternative for round 14:

(50 + 3) x 7 = 371
10 x 10 x 3 = 300
371 + 300 = 671

Close one there for Debbi, I thought she was a goner when Declan buzzed for the conundrum.

Very flat selections today, I reckon a good few of you clever lot managed a 100% game (even I got one, and I'm comparatively rubbish)!

Hiyo,

Did anyone fully catch R12? A moment of bad weather scrambled things. I've mostly got it.

R12: Y O T N I ?????? a D and another N and an E, something else.
Dec: TINNED (6)
Debbi: ??? (6)
Corner: INTEND (6)
OT: INDENT (6)

I got TINY for 4 during the time, haha.

FOCUS as an equaller in the COIFS (COYFS) round. I agree, Jim, quite poor selections. I didn't quite manage 100% but 13/15 isn't bad eh? I missed CONSTANT (doh!) and BROODERS which I dont think I would have risked had I spotted it anyway.

As for Graham Cole's absence, Jason, I think it was due to it being a new filming day. Normally they film Mon-Fri in one day with the same DC guest, but they must've only managed to do 4 with Graham.

Go that one. :)
Don't often get a DC beater.

Also, did anyone notice the neat bit of editing at the end? In his closing remark, Des said "Join us on Monday for another Countdown. See you then". It seemed well done, considering that the programme had been recorded with the intention of being transmitted on a Thursday.

The only problem was that seconds before, Des had said "I shall ask you more tomorrow" in is closing remark to Anton du Beke.

Susie actually said FOCUS, but Anton spoke over her.

I detested Anton at first with his boasting that "we got ... "etc and then couldn't pronounce the words he apparently got. However, the fact that he maintained the charade even when it was blindingly obvious that he hadn't got the words made me think that he was taking the piss and I subsequently enjoyed his appearance a little more.

Gah - 100% game for the asking and I mess it up with a concentration lapse. I got 14/15 maxes but missed the 8s in round 11.

An equaller for round 9 was ADENOMA for 7 and in round 10 I managed a Carol-split-multiplication thing: 50x2-4=96. 6+1=7. 96x7=672. 672-3=669. So frustrated that I could have had a 100% game had my mind not wandered for most of round 11.
