6+4+1 = 11 x (6+4) = 110 + 75 = 185

MODERATE as a beater for round 2.
VOMITING as a beater for round 8.
PERCOID as an equaller for round 7.
AEROSOL and ROSEOLA as equallers for round 9.
REBATED and AERATED as equallers for round 13.
(75-6-6)x(4-1) = 189. 189-4=185 as an equaller for round 14.

I had DINKIER too, Richard, but it wasn't an equaller in that particular round since DC had KINDLIER. I toyed with IRONLIKE^ in that round and PAENIOID^ in another but I never would have risked them and it turns out they were both bogus :) .

So where do you lot get your anagram shufflers from?
Who in everyday language uses Percoid? Unless you're a fisherman that is.

Nah, I wasn't, besides I'd be more liable to spot IDEATION (and I suspect Mr. Priest would too!). I was reasoning that PETALOID is valid and AMOEBOID etc so maybe something can be shaped like paeony but I never seriously considered it.

Charlie Reams wrote a little program that does the searches against a dictionary by Jim Bentley.

In times gone by I'd have thought about coming up with a version that uses indexed reference points on the dictionary to speed up the search, but since it responds immediately it doesn't seem worth the effort.
