Fair decision but tough on Andrew. Hope he gets another chance soon. Standard has been strong lately- lots of octo-potential players have been missing out on doing so...

I think he was probably winging it.

That was a very, very painful loss for Andrew there. Unbelievable and you can't help but feel anything else than being sorry for losing out by just that much :(

Jeremy Paxman is much better at Rachel Riley on this topic of timing the player out - he says "come on"/"let's have it", but Rachel doesn't really give that warning, and just goes "sorry, that's too long".

There is a big difference, however. In UC, warnings are given as this is conferring time. In CD, your conferring time is with yourself in the 30 secs - once you have made your declaration, you should not be fannying about trying to fudge your way to it.

My suspicion is that he'd miscalc'ed 70x4 so was expecting something other than a -9 at the end, and was still in wtf mode when the 280 came out. :)

Feel bad for challenger there but it was a fair decision to disallow. I suspect he saw it very last second and with it being such a pressure spot he just couldn't quite remember how he did it.
But fair play to the champ for keeping his composure and an excellent conundrum spot!
