When Nick asked why CHUTNEYS doesn't end in IES, I think a better explanation than the one Susie gave about it being a borrowed word is that words that end in vowel-Y generally just take an S.

Indeed, Susie was talking nonsense. CHUTNEYS does follow the regular standard English plural, plainly and simply. How could someone like Susie get so confused?

I was so happy when Andrew mispronounced MISLED, as I remember myself mispronouncing it in exactly the same way as a child!

I knew what the word meant - just never twigged it was mis-led. Same with denier as in climate change - thought it was pronounced the same as stockings.

There are probably other words in my head that are still wrong :)

It reminds me of biopic and how some people don't seem to realise it's bio-pic, not like myopic.
