Spoilers for Friday 4th January 2019 (COC XV, game 3)

Post by Thomas Carey »

For the last show of the week, we have another 73 vs 78 battle in the almighty 6 small wizard and series 73 runner up ( :( ) Matthew Tassier and the other series 78 semi finalist, Dougie Mackay. This game contains both the only number 5 and the only number 6 seed from a series, in this thing.

Predictions - all of you said Tass was gonna win this one, with margins ranging from 2 points to 61 (he's pretty good, from experience) and averaging at 27.67.
cheers maus

Just the third Preliminary and both contestants here have caused upsets before in their Series Quarter and/or Semi-Finals. Very good start from Dougie with IMITATOR but Matthew, as another expertise in the "six small" field, obviously had the edge in the Numbers Round for today and safely secured his spot with his performance in the last third of the show, although I have to commend Dougie for redeeming himself by solving the Conundrum.

Well Dougie, it was nice seeing you again after half a year just like Phil but unfortunately, we now know that both contestants who got knocked out in the Semi-Finals of Series 78 have been sent back home once again. :( Don't worry, there's still Philip and Zarte still to watch out for next week! Well-earned spot for the Quarter-Finals Matthew, let's see which Grand Champion will face you. No pressure, hopefully...

Come Monday, ah it's two well-known people, one who spoils the daily episode thread here on the Forum (See above and you know what I mean...) and one who hosts the daily chat on Apterous unless he's in the studio as the Audience or, in this case, the contestant! It's going to be a fun match to watch!

Progress:
Preliminary #1 (02 January): Jonathan Wynn (Series 73 Grand Champion) vs Phil Davies (Series 78 Semi-Finalist) (103 - 68)
Preliminary #2 (03 January): Ann Dibben (Series 74 Runner-Up) vs John Cowen (Series 77 Semi-Finalist) (94 - 97)
Preliminary #3 (04 January): Matthew Tassier (Series 73 Runner-Up) vs Dougie Mackay (Series 78 Semi-Finalist) (96 - 78)
Preliminary #4 (07 January): Thomas Carey (Series 73 Semi-Finalist) vs Stephen Read (Series 76 Grand Champion)
Preliminary #5 (08 January): Paul Erdunast (Series 74 Grand Champion) vs Zarte Siempre (Series 78 Grand Champion)
Preliminary #6 (09 January): Tom Chafer-Cook (Series 77 Grand Champion) vs Martin Hurst (Series 75 Grand Champion)
Preliminary #7 (10 January): Bradley Horrocks (Series 77 Runner-Up) vs Andrew Macleod (Series 75 Runner-Up)
Preliminary #8 (11 January): Philip Aston (Series 78 Runner-Up) vs Noel McIlvenny (Series 77 Semi-Finalist)
Quarter-Finals #1 (14 January): Jonathan Wynn (Preliminary #1 Winner) vs (Preliminary #8 Winner)
Quarter-Finals #2 (15 January): John Cowen (Preliminary #2 Winner) vs (Preliminary #7 Winner)
Quarter-Finals #3 (16 January): Matthew Tassier (Preliminary #3 Winner) vs (Preliminary #6 Winner)
Quarter-Finals #4 (17 January): (Preliminary #4 Winner) vs (Preliminary #5 Winner)
Semi-Finals #1 (18 January): (Quarter-Finals #1 Winner) vs (Quarter-Finals #4 Winner)
Semi-Finals #2 (21 January): (Quarter-Finals #2 Winner) vs (Quarter-Finals #3 Winner)
Championship Final (22 January): (Semi-Finals #1 Winner) vs (Semi-Finals #2 Winner)

Well played by both again. Matthew showed that he was a real expert in the numbers field, but Dougie did not disgrace himself at all- especially with that good conundrum spot in next to no time. Another enjoyable game which fitted the calibre of the competition well.
