ROARERS may be the best word I've ever heard pronounced in an NI accent.

We often point the finger at contestants shitting up selections by always picking 3 vowels, but maybe it's time to look at the other side of this. People picking 5! Yes, that's you Noel!

(But obviously well done, and I'm hoping you become an octochamp.)

Why wouldn't he? I think every time he did it I thought it was the sensible play for a pick, but would need to double check the recap.

Absolutely don't know why you're claiming that's a bad thing. I would have picked a final vowel pretty much every time he did - it's the sensible thing to do, fishing for a word etc. 4 vowels is only the optimal number when you get the right letters to start. On SONICATE or something if you're looking to maximise the max then a vowel is always the optimal move.

R1 was dumb. Shoulda picked a final consonant.
R7 I wanted an E for WAYSIDE :)
R13 I wanted an A for FOLIATES :( Foiliest was dumb.

If we're talking about maxing your score though, picking 4L the whole time is pretty dumb.

I was mainly talking about round 1 today. It seemed to be crying out for a consonant. I did wonder if you were fishing for something though.

I cringed watching it to be honest.

You won the round....so I'd call that a success :)

One of those episodes where I felt sorry for the challenger...
...nerves must have got to him bigtime.

Round 1 = 0
Round 2 = 0
...
Round 7 = still 0!

Awkward!

Obviously, it's unlikely that Noel held back on a 7 or 8 to match the 6 in Rd8 just so Ben could break his duck.
But if he did... massive respect. Empathy and competition generally aren't natural bedfellows.

(Who would have backed Ben to solve the conundrum on 2s though? :O #finishwithaflourish)

Apologising to Mark is as useful as shaking your fist at a cloud because it's raining.
Put it down to the time of the month.

I knew I picked a final vowel in R1 for a reason!

It was wrecking my head as to why, but could not remember! I wanted an O for SEQUOIA.
