Spoilers For Monday November 25th 2013

Post by James Robinson »

So, it's now ONE MONTH to Christmas :!: :!: 8-) 8-)

And with only one month to that most celebrated of days, you know that this series of Countdown is heading towards its climax.

We have 6 confirmed finalists, and we will more thank likely have our 7th this week.

In pole position is Gemma Church, who currently occupies this position, and will have her place guaranteed, if the current champion, Jonathan Liew, loses any time after today, then Gemma's place in the final will be secured. 8-) (Then we can start hoping that Zarte can still qualify for the finals, which would be fantastic. :D )

Selina Scott continues in DC today and tomorrow, before Pam Ayres rejoins DC on Wednesday.

Graeme will be along with the recap later. ;) :) :D  8-)

I went with the overwhelmingly difficult method of 25 x 5 - 9 to get 116. I don't know how I pulled that one off, but I did.

(I'm not necessarily surprised that one person missed that, it happens, I am a bit shocked both did, unless Jonathan was just being playful)

Nice solve by Rachel in last numbers - mind you 710 was easy (75-4)x(3+7).

Last numbers: (50 x 3 - 7) x 5 - 4 = 711

I think she made it look harder than it was. Once you see 79*9, you can just do (75+4)*(7+5-3) rather than (75+4)*(50/5-7)*3. (I didn't get it though.)

Callum did. If he doesn't appear to gloar, I'll name it for him.
Possibly the first contestant to accelerate with a mic clipped...

Ok answering my own question, turns out the other letter was an I.

So ENTHRONE + I = _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

p.s. just as a general point, I love the "did you get the 9 in round X ..." type questions in the spoiler threads, but IMHO they would be much better with the appropriate letter selection attached so that people can have a go (especially if its a 9).

Quite a tricky game today I must say, but I somehow managed to survive with another 11 maxer (albeit, with some guesswork including PEARLING and POMPIER).

KNITTER in round 5, HEROINE/OFTENER/NEITHER in round 8 and MOTIF in round 11 (all equallers).

And also the answer at some point in the future. I know we can look it up or wait for the recap, but it seems weird to leave it hanging forever.

We need Spoiler Spoilers, for spoilers that would spoil the Spoilers.

I was thinking that too. And I imagine one day we'll find the need for yet another layer of spoilerness.

Some bright posters overcome this by putting the "answer" in white or small type, it would be more appealing if Tony did this.
I thought I was good at Countdown until I joined this forum

I just spent about half an hour working out all the places for adding the 1 to one of the other numbers in the 437 round before multiplying them altogether ;) It was made a bit easier as there were 2 2's and 2 5's, but in the end I came up with the following list.

The first number in each line is the single number itself or the product of either 2, 3, 4 or 5 of the other numbers, and the second number is the answer by adding the 1 at that point.

2. 600
4. 500
5. 480
8. 450
10. 440
16. 425
20. 420
25. 416
40. 410
50. 408
80. 405
100. 404
200. 402
400. 401

I believe these are therefore the only possible answers above 400.

On several other forums there is a [spoiler]spoiler BBcode[/spoiler], e.g. see here:
http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/misc.ph ... de#spoiler

The text is hidden until highlighted.

It should be easy enough for admin to install the spoiler BBcode?
