Spoilers for Tuesday November 12th 2013 (S69 P90)

Post by Jordan F »

Sarah Taylor has had 3 pretty solid wins so far, though she'll need to win a couple more to possibly be in the finals. Can she at least get a 4th today?

Multiplying all the small numbers together gives 480 in the 480 round.

Alistair's GAUZES not allowed on Apterous but the ODO thing likes it (not that that's in use yet).

I like how Susie kept everyone in suspense with ROUNDISH by saying "yes" after she found the entry and then pausing for a bit. (She just as often says "yes, I didn't think it would be in" ).

She is probably pausing while Damian talks through her ear piece telling her that their computer checker says
it is valid.

The one I didn't risk was BLEATINGS, but there is an alt 9 there I see after. I also, like them, missed the two 6s in the
DAUNT/POUND/ADOPT round.

(100-2-2)x5 for the quick way to 480.

I thought it was wrong to disallow BLEATINGS last time so the right decision was made today but there's nothing more annoying than inconsistency. Make your mind up please, Susie!

TANGIBLES for the safer option, as well as DOPANT for a beater in round 4.

Good game too.

Great game.
SAMPHIRE as an alt 8 in R5

Sadly I went for the hyphenated FOLD-OUT instead of HOLDOUT.

So if one player doesn't offer BLEATINGS because he had remembered it being disallowed and the other playing does offer it, because he hasn't remember, the first player can cry foul if it's allowed. In football etc no two situations are ever identical. Here either BLEATINGS is OK or it isn't.

She looked it up. She wasn't waiting for Damian. It was just a brief pause.

BLEATINGS surprised me. It's one of those words I've always understood as invalid, with TANGIBLES as the valid alternative. However it's there as a noun in the current dictionary. It looks like a mass noun to me, but it doesn't say so - so it's OK, and has been at least as long as they've used this dictionary.

Don't know if anyone spotted a little re-recording glitch, possibly in the ROUNDISH round. Susie checked ROUNDISH and pronounced it OK. Alastair suggests something which Susie goes to look up. But when she looks at the dictionary, it's magically already moved to the right page.

You'd think Susie's job was pretty easy, but lots of different people did it and she was better than all of them at it, which must prove something.

Interesting to note that if BLEATINGS had been allowed last time around, Chris Ball would have elevated from number 7 seed to number 6 seed with the extra 18 points and ended up playing Eileen Taylor in the QF's and Andy would have played Jill Hayward!

Furthermore I picked vowel here in case the next consonant was N, as I would have been unsure of BLEATINGS et al.

It was N. Boom.
