In the absence (well sort of) of Howard, then I have been told to alert "other authorities."

Thanks.

Every time we block a spamming user, a new accont is created. It would be useful to see if the IP addresses are the same.

No, it says, "Account Creation disabled", but I wonder if that works :?:

Might well be that they're using a dynamic IP which would make IP banning difficult. It is frustrating how they seem to manage to get through though. Maybe all new accounts should be approved before they're allowed to contribute, like here on c4c?

If it's easy to do, this sounds like an excellent idea.

How about a bit of appreciation for the fucking ridiculous amount of work I already put into this place rather than rolling your eyes at things I haven't got around to yet?

Of course, master. I bow down to you for all the other magnificent things you have done for the last 3 and a bit years.

There is another spam barrage today. The ability to delete spammers seems to be as elusive as finding that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Charlie, when you have some spare moments, a nice deleting upgrade would be nice. :D

This is out of hand now. We now have swearing in the titles.

Should we have an election for the next admin between Me, James, Kirk, Johnny Canuck, Kai, Joseph Krol and Mike Brown? (Well, there are other non-spammy editors but this is my shortlist)

I've prevented all account creation until I can fix the CAPTCHA. If anyone really needs an account, please PM me and I'll make you one.

A message for anyone who does have an account on the AptoWiki - this article requires a few edits:
1 - removing 'sissis' from the useful letters guide as this is no longer valid on Apterous,
2 - removing 'senseless' from the Fours (9s) as the same letters are used to make 'senselessnesses' which is included in the 11+s,
3 - removing 'sissiness', 'tenseness', 'denseness', 'represser' and 'redresser' from the Fours (9s) as these can all be pluralised using the same four letters and are included higher up the page.
(Didn't know where else to put it, so thought I'd put it in here. Hope that's ok. :? )

There doesn't seem to be a "proper" discussion thread for the Wiki so I'll use this one as well rather than start a new one.

People who make the quarter finals or better in their series are often referred to as "finalists". I find this very strange and misleading.

That's how Countdown refers to them. Anyone who loses from the quarter-final stage onwards gets a "Series [n] Finalist" trophy.

If they got a horse trophy would they be a horse?

I think it's the same weird inflation that causes division 1 in football to actually be the 9th level (or whatever it is now - I can't keep track).

No, I'll just wait a couple of years and then apply at the point where merely applying makes you a champion of champions winner.

I hate to spoil Ed's party, but according to the home page he's still current series champion, and it's annoying me. Slightly.

If you edit a featured article, it doesn't appear to affect the front page version of it. How does this get sorted?

You have to edit the front page, but only people with the rights to alter it can change it, and it's a set few that doesn't include me, unfortunately........... :( (P.S. Sort it out, Charlie. 8-) )

Surely it should take it from the article anyway rather being a separate entity in its own right that needs parallel editing.

Going back to this, the featured articles all seem to have a separate (uneditable) page - e.g. Susie Dent's - which are separate from their main article so can end up quite different if the main article is edited.

Those are templates meant for inclusion on the front page, they aren't articles per se.

Yep, but it would be good if they could be "synced" with their article every so often to prevent divergence.
