Interesting hearing Ann Widdecombe give Countdown the big thumbs up on Richard Bacon's 5 Live show now.

She'll probably be back in DC again thanks to that.

Shit, you mean Richard Whiteley got the presenting job? I knew he was in the running, but I was waiting until I watched the first episode on tape. Now you've spoilt it.

(Obviously if he didn't get the job, you wouldn't be talking about him on a Countdown forum in this way.)

Jeremy Hardy mentioned Countdown in the news Quiz last week, and mused on his not being asked back to be a DC guest after his one week. Sounded quite sad to have been spurned. But he always sounds a bit sad.

I can't remember having seen him on CD, and if I did see him whether he was any good. Obviously not as good as Jon Gaunt.

I wasn't watching properly but one of the contestants declared COTTAGE so Rachel may have been laughing at the fact that he didn't put the R on.

I saw this on "Room 101 Extra Storage" on Sunday. Jamelia was trying to get text speak into Room 101, and was just saying that kids won't be able to spell if we keep allowing them to text LOL, CUL8R type abbreviations, and that she won't let her kids text. So Countdown would be defunct if nobody can spell.

Rubbish really IMHO ;-), not just the jokey Countdown reference. Textspeak is much faster than typing in whole words. Intelligent kids will be able to learn both textspeak and normal spelling, and at least the dimmer kids can communicate more easily.

Jamelia also mentioned taking her kids to school - so she must've given up on the Home Ed she mentioned in "8 Out Of 10 Cats" a couple of years back. Trying to get early mornings into Room 101 - excellent idea! :)

My source tells me that someone on EastEnders "needs a friend to do the Countdown conundrum with them" or something like that. I think it was just throwaway dialogue, rather than a storyline involving Countdown.

I see that Nick Hewer is on Room 101 next week - and so is Carol Vorderman. It seems at least possible that Frank Skinner may take the opportunity to raise Countdown, even if it's not actually one of Carol's choices.

Anybody else watch this? I saw it last night (Room 101 Extra Storage). Rather good. Frank Skinner did indeed mention Countdown. :)
At one point, the third guest (Rhod Gilbert) wanted to put himself into Room 101, and Frank said no, otherwise the rest of the programme would be like an episode of Countdown, and Carol said "old and new", fairly good-naturedly. Perhaps enough water has flown under the bridge now since her departure. 8-)

I saw it, but not the extended version. The "old and new" comment was because Carol is actually ten years older than Nick, but tries to hide it with plastic surgery.

"Michael Kelly" would have been the incorrect answer given by someone who had nearly remembered "Matthew Kelly" - hence an incorrect answer scoring 100.

Countdown was mentioned in the introductory piece to I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue on Radio 4, Monday 12th November.
As the show was coming from Dunstable, Jack Dee explained that Carol Vorderman had been born there and that she
left Countodwn when they tried to cut her million pound salary by 90 percent. She is alleged to have told them to stick
their new contract up their Vowel-Consonant-Consonant-Vowel.

Question on "Only Connect" BBC 4 on 19th November.

What comes fourth:

'The Premiership'
'Today with Des & Mel'
'Soccer Saturday' on Sky Sports

The first team didn't get it and it was passed over to the team led by S65 contestant Dave Taylor, who knew
it was Countodown related, Victoria Coren commenting that he was unlucky not to have solved it as he had been
on the show.

Answer:

'The Apprentice'

Reason: Previous Shows of 'Countdown' presenters

Not the only show she'll be on on Monday. As well as Countdown and Pointless Celebrities, she'll be hosting a programme called UK360 on the Community Channel at 7am on Monday morning. (That's channel 539 on Sky, 233 on Virgin or 87 on Freeview.)

Rachel Riley was one of the featured celebrities who appeared on CBBC's "12 AGAIN" (with Ronan Keating and Gene Simmons/Paul Stanley of Kiss !!). "Famous faces revisit the music and TV shows they loved and the big news stories that happened when they were kids". (Series 2 Episode 8). It was on CBBC today (30th December 2012) and currently available on BBC iPlayer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... Episode_8/ but not sure for how long. It feature old clips from Countdown about 22 minutes in of the 28 minutes episode.
