Octochamps

Post by Peter Thomas »

Interesting question asked by someone else: What percentage of contestants normally become octochamps? (Just counting the 15 round games since players have been able to win eight games).

I mean I know it varies obviously, but what's the average?

As a ballpark figure it seems there are usually about 100 contestants in a series (maybe a bit more) and you probably average 7 octochamps in a series. I'm going to say about 1 in 15, although Graeme will be able to give a better answer. As a percentage, more than 5 and less than 7.

The Ian Volante's of this world, might help increase that percentage slightly - if their non-octo contribution from their original series is now stricken as they have subsequently attained Octo status?

Would it make that much difference? I'm not sure.

Probably not that much, although I suppose if you wait long enough everyone might become an octochamp.

There are a few people I can think of that would be outrun by the heat-death of the universe.
