Gino Corr RIP

Post by Stewart Holden »

Scottish former Scrabble player and Countdown contestant Gino Corr passed away last night.

One comical moment from his Countdown appearance has been widely viewed over the years:

I was reading his wiki page not 10 minutes ago and wondering if he was still with us. Sometimes I fucking hate coincidences.

One of my favourite players of all time. RIP.

I haven't seen anything of him other than that clip but he seemed like quite a character. RIP.

RIP. I thought he was already dead actually, so in a way, this is a gain.

I sort of assumed he was, because I thought he was quite a bit older than he apparently was. When you're a teenager, anyone with white hair must be at least 65.

RIP, a real character. Was he ever asked to reappear on any Countdown specials (eg. 30th anniversary series or one-off matches)?

A bloke in the pub last week came up to me after my quiz and starting chatting to me, one nugget in the general randomness was that he'd been at Gino Corr's funeral a few weeks earlier in Aberdeen. He'd recently discovered that Gino presented a quiz, and was preparing to take his own team along before events got in the way.
