Geeks

Post by Kirk Bevins »

New series starts on E4, Monday 8pm.

This was the show I was invited on amongst other Countdown champions to go on a free holiday abroad as "geeks". Sadly the other champions backed out at the last minute and then I was unable to make the final filming date so I'm not sure the show contains any Countdowners. However, it does sound exciting and I'd be interested to see where they would have taken me/us.

Who backed out? I had forgot to chase this up, it just seemed to drop off after announced. What a disappointment :(

Several. Would be unfair to name and shame but seeing they were after 16-30 year old countdown champions (or octochamps) I suppose it doesn't narrow it down.

I was never really "in" and I feel that you might've unfairly implied that some of the others from the 30th Birthday Champs were in then out when they were never really in. I'm also very keen to know what it turns out like for other brands of geek.

Sounds crap. I bet you'll be happy you didn't take part

The word "shame" is doing a lot here.

They put a show about geeks on during the Monday Quiz Hour?

I'd only heard about this at CoHud and after speaking with Kirk about it a couple of weeks afterwards I then got in touch with the producers about it at length. I was close to saying yes but after Kirk had to pull out due to conflicting dates, the fact others apparently dropped out giving a real shortage and that I don't really know many contestants that well at all who have appeared on the show after when I did my original run other than Kirk, I decided to withdraw.

I think it would have been a laugh personally speaking.
Probably the second tallest ever series finalist.

I will never turn down a free holiday, especially if it's abroad - cameras or no cameras.

Tried to watch for all of 5 minutes. Cringed. Switched off.
Possibly the first contestant to accelerate with a mic clipped...

Watched for 10 mins then recorded the rest due to impending Masterchef/Only Connect doublification.
Totally would have loved to see Countdown people on this. I'm sorry but it would have been amazing.

Kirk asked me but I refused- didn't see how I could possibly come out with any dignity or credibility. Haven't seen it yet but judging by the adverts I was probably right

Yeah, it would be mighty hard to come out with something you didn't start with :D
