I just noticed on facebook that Helen Grayson has passed away.

You can see from her wiki page that she was a very important figure in the early days of Countdown

A sad day for the quiz world as a whole

Helen was also a contestant on Mastermind, 15-1 and University Challenge. A formidable player on them all from what I remember.

Condolences to her family and friends at this time.
