aptoSOS.02 - signup and shiz

Post by Matt Morrison »

Hey all.

About time for another aptoSOS yeah? Sorry for taking so fucking long getting round to this.
Needless to say, when there is such a big gap between these things that whole discussion we had before about winners/finalists not being eligible for 1/2/a million series has to take a back burner, of course everyone will be eligible for this.

So please sign up below. But also give me some kind of input (if you can) about any changes you'd like. Namely keep it a randomised draw (I prefer) or should people be seeded to avoid each other like what kind of happens on Countdown? etc.

Enjoy
Matt

p.s. as long as there's a minimum of 40 people signed up I'll start this towards the end of the first week of January.

It basically simulates a Countdown series (but with tetrachamps instead of octochamps), and a series final at the end.

The first bit was right and the end bit was right. The middle? Not so much. We did quadrachamps last series (4 wins) and I plan to do the same again, obviously dependant on entrants.

So what's wrong with Thomas' statement? Tetra- indicates four.

Oh, and in, please.

On the random vs seeded thing (dunno if you said above which is gonna happen, CBA reading through) I think random would be best tbh. I think that way it would give more people a chance and you'd see unexpected people emerging from not evenly spacing out all of the best candidates. Probably makes it a bit fairer and more interesting. It was random before, right?

I second this. Yet when Kirk and Innis met to do their game this time last year then they moaned, as they were the best in the auditions when they appeared on the show and therefore got to defeat a whole bunch of rookies.

He's saying that you and Kirk moaned about the randomness last time, because you had to play each other. Also that when you were actually on the show, it wasn't random, so, having done well at your audition, you didn't have to face any top players in the heats. But he still agrees with Josh.

Oh, OK. For the record, neither of us moaned last time (if anything, it benefitted me to have two chances to knock Kirk out), and I agree that random draw is definitely the fairest and most fun way to do it.

No such thing as full Jordan! The more the merrier.

STOP PRESS: I'm delaying this tournament by a month as Ben would like to run his annual apterous Masters tournament in its usual slot so I've stepped the fuck back.
Therefore we shall plan to play the first game on 1st March which happens to fall on a Thursday, so let's say registrations close on Monday 27th February (you decide whether that means up til the start of Monday or up til the end of Monday - if you try and register on Monday itself I'll probably let you play based on whether I like you), which will give me a couple days to sort the fixtures and get them into the tournament system.

I have a friend who had a situation like this. You can't say "working day" as some people work at night.

The only fair thing to do is say 23:59.

And the rest. "I'd" - some people aren't you, and some people wouldn't.
"better" - some things aren't so good.
You get the gist.
