Re: Apterous Autumn Tournament

Website has been updated with the final week's results as they stand. Technically, there's another week in which to play the games but the tables have been pretty much decided, and unless anyone's desperate to play the knock-out stage, I'm happy to draw a line under this one now- not least as two of the divisions have clear and outright winners and in the division that doesn't, the top two effectively played off for first place anyways.

I'll start with that division- the open- in this 'final round up'.

In fourth place- unless he wallops Jason Turner by about 90 points in his final game- is Dan Abrey, whose initial charge was scuppered by adjudicated games and beatings from the division's top two.

In third is (relative) new boy Nathan Cullen with an impressive 8.5 wins, faltering a little at the end after a strong opening.

In second place is Karen Pearson with 10 wins out of 12, including three centuries. Howeverm those two defears were crucial, as both came at the hands of the open tier winner...

MATT MORRISON, whose 10.5 out of 12 record was enough to seal the win. Matt also secured the highest single game score of the tier- ironically enough, in his second week game against Karen. Congratulations to Matt and all the top 4.

In the championship, whilst there was a runaway winner, the rest of the places were a lot more hotly contested, with 5 people tied on 8 wins. Using spread as the deciding factor, Giles Hutchings and Martyn Simpson finish 5th and 6th respectively, leaving out top 4 looking like this-

4th is JoJo Apollo, a strong early run coming unstuck at the end against some strong opposition.

3rd was Graeme Cole, the top seed for the championship tier but who suffered from a slow first week, rallying to win 7 out the remaining 9 games, starting with an epic 122-121 win over Hugh Binnie (the highest score of the division).

2nd was Chris Hare, who like Jojo started strongly- including inflicting the only defeat on the eventual winner- but lost 2 of the final 3 games, including a tight final game against the eventual winner...

DAN MCCOLM, whose dominant 11-1 record sees him lift the purely virtual trophy.

Into the premier now, whose early enthusiasm for games seems to have lapsed into utter apathy at the final week's rounds. No matter, assuming the missing results will be adjudicated in the normal manner (a pretty safe assumption), here are the final results-

in fourth place we have James Robinson on a 6-6 record, some good wins tempered by losses against the division's top seeds.

In third on 7.5 wins is James Nugyen with some impressive wins in the round robin, including over second place man...

Edward McCullagh, who also takes places 1 and 2 in the high single game score charts with 129 and 126 over Eoin and James R respectively, more impressively, he's the only person to inflict a win over eventual champion...

INNIS CARSON. 9-0 in the round robin stage with nine centuries, as ever Innis looked invincible pretty much throughout the tournament. Can he maintain this form for the masters in February? We'll see...

Thanks to all for taking part (those of you who actually played your games, that is). Not sure I'll do this again next year, if I do I'll likely drop the number of rounds to 10 (5 weeks, two games per week) and even out the sizes of the divisions a little rather than do it on strict pro rank cutoffs.

Again, thanks to all, and happy apterousing. :)

So there was meant to be a knockout stage but you're writing it off?

There's still an announcement on the front page of apterous for an unplayed tourney game against Stuart Arnot. Any chance of getting rid of it? Cheers
