Post by Michael Wallace »

Jimmy posted this in Scrag, but I want to put it here so I can bitch about how it should've been a 135, not a 125 (with a 145 max), except in the second numbers I misclicked and did 9*9 instead of 9+9 (doing a 30*18 approach). I know, baaaaw, etc., but I rarely find myself on this form, and it would've been joint bottom of the current 15 rounder leaderboard, too, mutter mutter, etc.

http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=15346

edit: oh, and I had RELAXERS, too, but didn't bother risking it since I was declaring second and I've had a bad day of making up words today

They do indeed know some scarily obscure words. Comforting for us mortals, though, that neither player got the first rather easy (IMO) numbers round ((75+7)x6).

There was actually some weird laggy bug that caused the patience bars to time out instantly in that round, and the whole game was badly affected by lag, so I hope the server can hold out under the strain of APTOBASH

I somehow managed to amass 134 points in this 15-round game:
http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=15927.
Largely thanks to my risking NITRATION for 9 in the 12th round. It just seemed like it should be a word, and fortunately for me it was.

Whereas, I lost the previous three games I had with Innis. I think he is an all-round stronger player, but I can have my bright moments, I guess. I had no words disallowed in this particular game, which is unusual for me. (Still unloading useless SOWPODS-only words from my head).

It's a different ball game of memory. If you have ASNI in a selection, then ASSASSINS may be one of the best words to go for. I'm sure someone can produce a list of high probability 4 letters (e.g. AESR) and the longest word that can be made from these such as ARSES or ARREARS.

I just had a round that mentioned REASSESSES so that should be AERS covered at least

Well worthy of note, good stuff. As a CSW-to-ODE convert, you'd probably benefit from spending some time studying -SOL words (ARIDISOL, VERTISOL, etc) on which, unusually, the ODE is considerably more permissive than CSW.

A couple of crackers against Innis put me right in my place. I must've lost 150 points. Not quite a 700 player yet!

http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=16592
http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=16593

the first one is probably the best game I've played. Anyway, that's it for me until mid January. I better get on with some revision! Kirk better not beat me to 1000 games though.

Maximum minus one!
http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=16836

Annoyingly, I knew OPALINE (round 2). The conundrum was a complete guess. Once I'd assumed it wasn't an -ING word, I started making compound words in my head, hoping to some up with something feasible.

Probably the most tense game I've ever had online. Missed quite a few maxes along the way, but incredibly matched each other over the first 14 rounds. Bit lucky on the conundrum as I learnt the SONICATE extensions very recently:

Certainly was a nailbiter; I was nowhere near that conundrum so a well deserved win for Junaid.

Nearly broke the speedgoat record (which is 158) as I would have got 162 or indeed 159 had I got the conundrum after the 10 seconds. I was also on for a max game (my first ever but the second ever as Jono has already got 141/141 against me). 14 perfect rounds and sat on 152. Conundrum is revealed. I instantly see a final E for CONFIRMER or RECONFIRM. I wait to make sure. The E pops up, I buzz instantly and choose which to say. I said CONFIRMER. I got the wrong bloody one - grrrrrrr. So I stuck at 152 and still no perfect game for me. Agonisingly close!

I quite enjoyed this game. I wanted it to be a game involving just obscure words but I failed in the second half of the game. I spent most of the 30 seconds looking for the 9 as I learnt it recently but had forgotten it and so was well annoyed when it was revealed. Oh well.

Despite missing several maxes, I still somehow managed to come joint 3rd in Sunday's Duel, beating many luminaries in the process. This is my best ever performance in the Daily Duel to date. Don't bother looking at the game itself as I didn't come up with any notable words or anything - I just wanted to tell someone.

Amazing isn't it - I maxed nearly everything and came 7th. That's the problem with flat scoring...

Aye, the Flat Duels almost always swing on who gets the conundrums - miss one and you're a bit fucked. Amazingly I got both on that one so fluked 2nd :)

I got girlishly excited when I spotted what an H would make in round 1 of this game, possibly my favourite pick ever.

Sadly the rest of the game could happily be in scrag, especially rd 5 where I picked A for LAVATION but bottled out of it at the last minute, only to use a letter twice in my "safety" word. I'm sure someone on here mentioned that qiblas should be allowed though.
