Very unlikely. Is it possible you were awarded both and it just didn't tell you about one of them?

It would still be a bug, I'm just trying to establish exactly what bug.

I think there's a problem with Hyper numbers. I managed to beat the max in Round 10.

Yeah, this is quite common - I did it three times in this game and got ahead of the cumulative game max a couple of times. I completely arsed two rounds up and still finished with 180 from a max of 185. I think it's just cos Hyper Numbers take a lot of solving, so the apterous solver can't run through every possibility without making you sit around for a while between rounds.

When I offered someone a game of bullet 9, it said something along the lines of "can't do it because you are not a full member." Given that I am a full member, and then I gave apterous prune a game of bullet 9 straight afterwards, I can see it is a bug in the message window, as I reckon that the person whom I was challenging was not a full member. However the box said I wasn't a full member, and herein lies the bug.

A very small bug - when Myleene Klass gave me the best possible solution to a numbers game, there was an extra full stop at the bottom of her working:

Hey Charlie

in the skills tab within the java app, it's showing all my skills as level 0. The experience points are right (I think) though.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Has been that way for months. Was part of a Grand Plan which has been delayed for a while, so I might revert it.

METHANOATE's in Lexplorer but it's not in the dictionary. It's not listed either under methanoic acid (as it's a salt) or under formate (its other name).

Please halt the stampede to enter it as word now! Thanks :)

Sounds normal to me - they appear every n minutes whether there's anyone there or not as far as I can tell.

Was n reduced for a while? It seemed quicker than when they first were introduced, or maybe the chat's that much more interesting nowadays and the time flies by.

When you get a max points solution in a numbers game that isnt as close to the target as possible, it comes up as a max in the game tab, but when you look back at it on the apterous website its not listed as a max.

Theres probably a bit of debate there as to weather such solutions should count as maxes or not, but i just wanted to point out the inconsitency.

Is Apterous not working right now?

I was unable to finish my first game today and when I finally tried to log back in the attempt was unsuccessful. Then, it did connect as normal, but I got an error message that could not display.

What is that, Vista?

Is she still not well? Been a bit starved of internet there and whenever i've popped in to get me fix it's been hissy at loading the page. In fact, the cravings have started to ease off. Might actually postpone the counselling sessions for another few weeks and see how things go.

In the chat it offered a missed 9 which Junaid solved (great spot!) and obviously gave the answer, but then proceeded to leave it open saying we had -x seconds to solve the answer. I very magnanimously tested it and got an extra point. My altruism knows no bounds.

I realise this may very well be a temporary glitch while LEONARD's getting settled, but just so you're aware.

Thanks :)

I know that I and others have mentioned this bug before, but, as it's happened again, I thought I'd mention that today's duel aborted when I made a wrong guess at the conundrum:

ClientGame168[CXPLAY]:java.io.IOException: Span 8 times waiting for conundrum, aborting.

I do have the Java script if you want it, but haven't posted here, since it contains spoilers for today's duel.

A vast improvement, though, with the last few crashed duels I've had, is that they've resumed when I log out and in again. :)

I haven't played much over the past week or so, but everytime I do, I've got a problem with the conundrum freezing.

e.g. On yesterdays duel, I typed in the answer to the conundrum but when I hit enter, it froze. I had to log out and come back in but the game had disappeared. Checking this morning, I was not credited with getting the conundrum.

When playing games against Apterous, it usually freezes a couple of times during the game. However, the main problem is when I press the enter key on the conundrum. It doesn't matter whether I have the right or wrong answer. The game freezes - I have to log off and log back on again. Only this time, a different conundrum game comes up. Trouble is, the only way that I can finish a game is to enter nothing and allow my opponent to get the conundrum or 30 secs to run out. Since this problem started, I've avoided playing humans.

It may be a coincidence, but I downloaded Java version 6 update 15 when the server was being swapped. When I initially played apterous after this, I got a message along the lines that apterous wasn't compatible. But then it worked OK for a bit before this problem started.

Is there a solution?

I had FEINTER disallowed in yesterday's duel which I would have thought would be acceptable as it's a comparative of a 1-syllable adjective.

It is in the relevant dictionary, "denoting paper printed with faint lines as a guide for handwriting; denoting the lines so printed". This discussion would better suit the CountMax errors thread though, since Charlie uses the dictionary file maintained by Jim (accidental removal of single-letter words notwithstanding).

CountMax throws out any words shorter than 4 letters long, so it's not really dictionary related. JimDic does appear to be missing all single-letter words though (except A). Not hugely important in the grand scheme of things.

Other people are playing fine so it looks like you're being obstructed by your own firewall or other filtering software.

Alright thanks, have just moved into Uni accommodation so have emailed those who run the internet service about it to see if they can figure it out cause I've turned off my firewall and the same was coming up yesterday. :|

Although, trying today I've not been able to get in either, but instead get this - '' java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission 217.36.210.230:3332 connect, resolve)''

I was viewing some max games and came across this one.

When you hover over the declarations for round 5, the solution shown is incorrect.

Yeah the database crashed so I reentered that game by hand, since it was the first max game ever, but I probably made a few mistakes.

Oh, okay. Well, I think that's the only error on that game. It should be "25 x 9 = 225; 225 - 8 = 217; that's 217".

'Hyper Unlimited flat 9' on the drop-down doesn't relate to the hyper unlimited flat 9 on the records page- namely, the former gives 45s rounds and the latter has 30s rounds.
