Apterous Winter Closed Round 3-and-a-bit

Post by Andrew Feist »

We're on the holiday break in the AWC, so new matches posted in the main event or in the Junior Mint. At this point in the Speed Demon we are (theoretically) through with the original round-robin, which will lead to regrouping for games in the new year. So here are the pools, and what we know about them:

Pool Red
MISSING GAME: Done!
RESULTS: Scott Gillies finished 1st; Kirk Bevins finishes 2nd; Matthew Tassier finishes 3rd; Tom Chafer-Cook finishes 4th; Peter Lee finishes 5th; Graeme Cole finishes 6th.

Pool Orange
MISSING GAMES: Ian Volante v. Tom Rowell
RESULTS: Innis Carson is 1st and James Robinson is 2nd. James Hall finishes 6th. If Ian beats Tom, we have a three-way tie at 2 wins; if Tom wins, he finished 3rd, Jim Bentley in 4th and Ian in 5th.

Pool Yellow
MISSING GAMES: Done-ish (modulo DO'D)
RESULTS: There was a second-hand message that DO'D was pulling out of this. Given that, that leaves Edward McCullagh in 1st, Matt Morrison in 2nd, and Andrew Feist, Adam Gillard, and Lesley Hines in a tie. The tiebreaker points in this case come out even all the way around. Adam Gillard has the advantage in points, so what I will propose is this: I will play Lesley with the loser taking 5th place, and the winner playing Adam for 3rd/4th.

Pool Green
MISSING GAMES: Tom Barnes v. Lloyd Pettet
RESULTS: This pool will finish in a nice 5-4-3-2-1-0 order, once that last game comes in. Oliver Garner finishes 1st; Thomas Cappleman finishes 2nd; Eoin Monaghan finishes 3rd; and James Bradley finishes 6th.

Pool Blue
MISSING GAMES: Hugh Binnie v. Miriam Nussbaum; Andrew Herbertson v. Kai Laddiman; Andrew Herbertson v. Miriam Nussbaum.
RESULTS: Dinos Sfyris wins the pool.

Pool Violet
MISSING GAMES: Done!
RESULTS: Ben Wilson in 1st; Ryan Taylor in 2nd; Ben Cooke in 6th. James Doohan, Chris Hare, and Dan Seasmith finished in a 3-way tie with 2 wins; the tiebreaker points have James Doohan with 4 points, Chris Hare with 3 points, and Dan Seasmith with 4 points. So Chris Hare is out of the tie in 5th place. I propose that James Doohan and Dan Seasmith play a tiebreaker game to determine 3rd/4th.

Pool Violet is clearly the place to be.

Speaking of tiebreakers: Lesley Hines is through to play Adam for 3/4, leaving me in 5th.

I'm away for Christmas, and appear to have the usual issue of Apterous not loading on someone else's computer. No idea why, but it probably means I won't be playing at all until the 29th or so, unless any of the geeks round here can offer advice.

Ach shit. Sorry Dan, I just realised after I jumped in with the conundrum, that you were on for a max game in our third game.
Sorry 'bout that

The first 2 games were very close, but you taught me a real lesson in the third. Well done and thanks; really enjoyed it :)
