Pencils are fast becoming the more sought after prize in Apterous. Talk about your latest pencils here.

I saw this word on the back of a taxi seat once and made a mental note of it for Apterous purposes.

I love all my pencils equally of course, they are all my special children. However my two favourite recent-ish pencils are this one and this one.

My best pencil is probably the first one from this game http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?ga ... 5#r2996635

Was also quite pleased to get a pencil for 'jumbucks' in a game today, mainly because it was a complete guess at what prime had picked for.

My proudest recent bronze pencil came from a game of Hypergoatdown, where I had picked the 11 initial letters:
  • W A L C I B H E D R T
I then picked an appropriate final "goatletter" to give me one of only two possible 11-letter words. Those of you who fancy a challenge can try to work out which final letter I picked and which 11-letter word I declared. Whilst not exactly a common word, it should be in many apterous players' vocabularies.

Those who would rather be spending their time doing other things can follow this link to the round.

Note: the only other possible 11-letter word would have been BIRDWATCHER, which would have been available by picking a final letter R.

It's a boring word, but it's also my 5000th ODE pencil (if you add together ordinary and bronze)

Edward hadn't played French for a while. In our first game, he started in Round One with this: http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=232960.

Once he had warmed up, by Round 3, he just left me numb.

Not so easy to spot a nine though, if you don't know there is one.
And a question that just occurred to me: if several people get the same new word in the duel, do they all get the pencil, or only the first person?

I was pretty amused by this last night, when I was playing some French games despite not actually knowing French. ^^;

Round 8: DC informs me that there's a word DOIGTES. http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=244840

Minutes later, in another game: it comes up again and I get a French pencil. http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=244842

I liked the amount of pencils I got in this game. My favourite part about it was that in the second round where i got a twelve, I knew the alternate one too! Pretty chiffed with myself if I'm allowed to say so.

An unusual example of nabbing pencils for the same word, in two different languages (and two different formats), in the same month:

From Hypergoatdown in English: FISHWIVES
From Aegilops in Dutch: VISWYVEN
