Is Apterous brown? [GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD]

Post by Graeme Cole »

What colour does your synaesthesic side tell you apterous is? For me it's not brown, it's a sort of pale blue. But that could just be because of the background colour.

Yeah, some sort of bluey white but I think that's just association with Countdown or the fact that most of the screen is white when you're in the game
cheers maus

I think it transcends colour.

I realise seeing this probably infuriates Charlie, but I feel like I can offer a useless addition to the thread nonetheless.

So each letter for me has a certain quantity of opaqueness, and some colour etc. I'm not entirely sure how much of it is either cognitive or associative (I'm much more inclined to assume the latter) as after having a clearer head for the first time in years as of mid-January I'm finally beginning to make head-or-tail of things.

Consonants are almost always quite transparent, with the odd exception. This means that the 'colour' of a word is largely determined by the vowels it contains. Vowels on the other hand all are very opaque and have a distinct colour, as follows:

A - A pale yellow, corn colour, roughly similar to #FFE45E
E - Orangey-Red, #FF5521
I - A monochrome, roughly #292929
O - Isabelline-ish White, #EBEBEB
U - Egyptian Blue, roughly #1A24B0

So for APTEROUS, it's quite a bright array of multiple colours which, due to their opaqueness don't blend too much, but reminds me a little bit of this journal, sort of.

For me it's gloriously retro internet, with black, red and orange dominating...
...but then, I do love Halloween!
