I'm really intrigued as to how much Mark can eat, cause I always thought I was bad... can we get someone from Guinness for Mark to go solo if Gev isn't game?

I'm not THAT good. I just have completely unjustified confidence in my ability to eat way too much for the purposes of proving points to nobody.

I blame Claire, she overordered. Anyhoo, this is not the point. I challenge someone to this, an arbitrary contest with no prize. Who wants it?

Well you could have nailed that deal ages ago. Saturday was the only one that was really a problem. You've only got yourself to blame over Friday. (And stop checking.)

I don't think it's going to get much more than £64 but it could go down so I don't think I've really got anything to lose. It is a good business model.

**Quick update alert**

Numbers up to 27 for COLIN X and 18 for the hangover but still plenty of space in both! 18 was actually the exact amount of players I was expecting for the hangover (though I'll happily accommodate more), so that can definitely be made into a regular thing if people want. I should also probably change the title of the thread to include the hangover date in it!

I'll be sending the puzzle magazine off to the printers this weekend so if you have anything you want to contribute to it, be sure to let me have it asap. Many thanks to those who have already contributed. :)

Incidentally, I was planning on having a pre-event warmup tournament on apterous (naturally, I'd have called it the 'overhang') but I've been dithering over whether or not to have it on a weekend or midweek and the moment has kind of passed now. Pity, as I had a pretty cool prize lined up for it, but that's something I may consider for COLIN XI- or indeed any other tournaments I run this year.

If you haven't entered yet but you want to, please don't delay in getting your entry to me as I do kind-of panic a bit if entries are running low by this time of year. :) If you don't see your name on the entry list but it should be there, feel free to shout and throw things at me.

Wishing all on c4c and apterous a great 2014, and hope to see you all at the end of the month!

Ah, it's £69.35 at the moment for both nights. Pretty excellent in comparison to the 'lodge although you'll probably have a fucking terrible time there. Looks to be in the wrong place too? Overall hugely sad news.

The idea was actually to make the Travelodge prices tumble by publicly withdrawing my interest in the room. Seems to be working. So, travelodgebot, take note: I've booked more rooms in the Ibis 8-)

Small query;
Ben wrote:Okay, with 33 entries and 2 weeks to go
34 people listed? Or might someone (Mr Styles?) be a reserve in case we need even (divisible by 3?) numbers?

Either way can't argue with the majority of that.

[JR moment]
Was hoping to sneak into the top seeds like a couple of years ago but with a couple of players who tend to do better than me in events below me (Matt, Ryan) then no complaints. Bring it on :) ;) :D

Right, because I'm always so busy, I completely forgot about this tournament and I'm now looking to book hotels. Price of the travelodge is about £64 so I've ruled that out. Ibis looks cheap but I'm on foot so unless other people are staying there and are driving and I could hitch a left I'll have to resort to other hotels. Any ideas of cheap B+Bs nearby?

I'm tempted to Ibis it too Kirk, I can't see the Travelodge price coming down now. It's basically a couple of taxis or a long walk, I'm not that arsed, it'll still work out much cheaper. I just resent paying £64 for a fucking shitty Travelodge room.

Yeah, but it was my choice to hold out for a cheaper room. I'd feel like a prick to just turn up and impose on someone. I'll probably just roll with it and see what happens. Is the Asda there 24 hours?

Booked the Eagles Guest House on Newark Road. Short walk from both venues and the Fox and Hounds. It has 137 reviews on trip advisor, of which 132 are excellent. That'll do me. It was £38 for a single occupancy room including breakfast. Feel like I got a great deal there. £64 for a fucking Travelodge? They must be kidding!

Just Saturday. Just booked my train tickets in advance too. Less than £9 to get from York to North Hykeham, even booking as late as today. Ridiculously cheap. £17.15 to get home though. I get to Hykeham at 10:44 so enough time to walk to the venue before shuffle off.

TMI dude.

Actually this is a no-brainer isn't it? £38 including breakfast, perfect location. I'm in.
