COHUD2 - Countdown In Huddersfield 2 - Saturday 6 July 2013

Post by James Robinson »

The waiting is finally over, after months of planning, and arduous behind the scenes negotiations, me and my co-host Jeff Clayton.

We can finally announce the return of COUNTDOWN IN HUDDERSFIELD. ;) :) :D  8-)

Join us once again at The John Smith's Stadium in Huddersfield for more unscrambling and solving in live match play, plus the announcement of a brand new tournament format launching this autumn. :? :o 8-)

We’ll be adopting the traditional Bristol (classroom) setup where everybody plays six games – three 15-round heats, a 9-round quarter final, a 9-round semi final and a 14-round final.

Doors open at 9am for a 10am start, concluding around 6pm. Admission costs just £25 per person or £45 if you're booking for two. Tea/coffee is provided on arrival with a free sandwich lunch. A cash bar will also be open during the afternoon breaks.

A selection of photos from last year's event is available to view – why not make a weekend of it?

- Postcode HD1 6PG, signed from the M62 and free parking.
- Less than a mile from Huddersfield railway station and town centre.
- Evening meals available at the Rope Walk pub next door.
- Rooms nearby at the Travelodge on Leeds Road (HD1 6NW).

To book or for more details, contact:
- Jeff Clayton, 07595 690249 / jeffrey_clayton@hotmail.com
- James Robinson, 07817 750544 / james_r_robinson@hotmail.com .

Payments can be made on PayPal to me at james_r_robinson@hotmail.com. (Note, if doing it that way, select it as a "Personal transfer", as opposed to "Business", as PayPal deducts a portion of the fee if you choose the latter.)

This is an open event, so feel free to share with and invite others.

We look forward to welcoming you!

All questions that you want answering can be placed below. 8-)

Can I be unbanned from the event such that I am at least able to see it and search for it on Facebook? Thanks.

No.

Because I am banned and all that link does is lead me back to my events page. Michelle sent me an invite last night but I never received this invite as I am banned. You quote in your original post that:
James Robinson wrote:This is an open event, so feel free to share with and invite others.
Well it clearly isn't an open event. I refuse to pay £45 towards an event in which I'm clearly not welcome. This is nothing against you whatsoever though James. Now this could be down to Facebook's settings of blocked people as I know Jeff has me blocked so maybe it automatically stops you from viewing events created etc. But even though I am blocked I should still be able to see this event. At the moment me and Michelle will most definitely not be coming to this.

Hmmm, I'm so sorry about this mate. No idea what's going on. Will have to have a word with Jeff about this.

Had a word, a complete oversight on Jeff's part, due to past dealings and forgetting to rectify them. You shouldn't be blocked now, mate. You and Michelle are definitely welcome at COHUD2. ;) :) :D  8-)

Thank you James. As I mentioned, it may have been down to Facebook's settings, although as I could see last year's events page I thought maybe I was just being excluded from this one. Glad it is now sorted though and we shall hope to come to this! Thanks to you both.

Nice little update: There is now a provisional list at the top of the page, this is consisted of people who have said they'll come on the Facebook page or on here, or by talking to me directly.

Not bad that it's already at 27. 8-)

James - I'm intending to come along but can I just ask about the choice of venue. Last year, I gave you contact details for the Grosvenor Casino in Huddersfield where my wife Julie works. They regularly hold events in the non gambling area such as darts and chess tournaments. I believe they were willing to provide use of the facilities for no cost. The benefit they would have received would have been the potential revenue from bar, refershment and foods sales. Can you clarify whether you followed up on this and what led you to decide to remain at Huddersfield Town's ground?

Hey Phil,

Thanks for your intention of coming. :)

In terms of venue choice, me and Jeff deliberated hard, and before the first COHUD when you mentioned it to me that night on Apterous, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that we'd go to the casino for COHUD2, but the overwhelmingly positive reviews that we got for the stadium from COHUD, made us think that since it was "tried and tested and worked", we decided to take a gamble and stick, even though it cost us more to book than the casino.

Me and Jeff do thank you for your more than generous offer, but it was just the fact that the stadium was so well received last year, that it deserved another shot. :)

Put me down as a maybe please. Impressive that you've picked a weekend where all of the local rugby teams I'd like to go and watch on the Friday or Sunday (Huddersfield, Leeds, Batley, Dewsbury) are all playing away!

And I've just checked, my other preferred option, Gateshead, are playing in London that weekend. Meh! Still, a provisional yes.

You can thank Jeff for that, I would've had it the weekend before like last year, but he's busy that weekend. So, thank him. :D

SO, IT'S NOW 12 WEEKS TO GO TILL COHUD2!!!

It does seem a bit early to be mentioning it, but since there are no other CO-events between now and then, I thought I'd start to round people up now. ;) :) :D

Currently we have a list of attendants at ONE, but it's still early days at the moment, but we do have 34 more on the provisional list.............., so hopefully we can improve on last year's pretty impressive début of 30. 8-) 8-)

Train tickets are now available from just about every train website, and hotel rooms are still available too, I should think. 8-)

SEE YOU DOWN AT THE STADIUM!!!! ;) :) :D  8-)

Better take your money with you. A few of us will be hitting Huddersfield's "Camel Club" on Saturday evening which is 99p entry and plays 90s cheese all night long. Most drinks are 99p too so it's a cheap night out. And then, after all that money you've saved, it's off to the Grosvenor casino to put it all on black. Then back to the Travelodge for a well deserved sleep. Breakfast on Sunday morning at the Wetherspoons and off home. Can't wait!

Oh, I've heard there's a Countdown tournament before that? I might pop along.

If you can't pay before then, but are interested in coming, inform either me or Jeff of your intentions of coming, so we can inform the stadium, so you won't miss out. ;) :) :D  8-)

JUST 10.5 DAYS TO GO NOW!!! ;) :) :D  8-) :geek: :ugeek:

I assume the first two sentences were aimed at everyone and not just me, as I've paid.

Jonathan Wynn has made it 21, but having an odd number of players can make it a bit awkward, so in the event of that occurring, me and Jeff have decided to make this offer.....

For anyone still interested in attending but looking carefully at the pennies, we can offer you the opportunity to sign up as a reserve player for the much reduced price of £5.

This means you'll be granted admission to the event and will be fed and watered, but only invited to play if we have an odd number on the day.

Don't dismiss it, think about it, could be a useful way of saving twenty quid and you might still get to play too.

Look forward to hearing from you! PM either Jeff on FB, or me on here or FB. ;) :) :D

According to Facebook it's now 26. I presume that means 3 have pulled out?

There are actually more, it's the list on here that's correct.

Paid. Don't think I can stay over though - still looking into it.

Predictions for winner? I'm gonna say Kirk, even though he hasn't been practising. Gonna say Matt, Tom, Glen, and Wynn to have good tournaments too.

Cheers my good man. This is definitely a wide open tournament, but if all those players can avoid each other early on, then we could have ourselves a very tantalising finish to the day's proceedings. ;) :) :D

P.S. LAST DAY WE'LL BE ACCEPTING PAYMENTS TODAY (mainly cos the stadium need confirmed numbers going).

Anyone else wishing to come but haven't paid yet, do so quickly, or if you will definitely be attending, but can't pay till later, inform me or Jeff ASAP, or you will miss out on a brilliant day out :!: :!: ;) :) :D  8-) :geek: :ugeek:
