COREA Saturday 30th March 2013

Post by Tony Atkins »

We are running the second COREA (Countdown in Reading) on the Saturday of Easter weekend, 30th March 2013, in Woodley in Reading.

Full details at http://www.kisekigo.com/corea13

We will be again raising money for charity and planning lots of Easter fun.

*** Stop press - we will be playing the new (yet unseen at a CO event) format - LLNLLNLLNLLLLNC ***

Haha, I was hoping to finally get to a Co-event next year, but it definitely won't be this one... as it falls on my 18th birthday! :| 8-)

I'll put my name down Tony as mentioned to you the other day I live in Reading and Woodley is only a 10 minute drive for me.
Probably the second tallest ever series finalist.

I'll definitely be returning to defend my title. ;) :) :D

Only trouble is that I'll be rushing around a bit, as I'll be returning from holiday in Lanzarote on the 28th, then will have to come down the following day, so I can get myself prepared. 8-)

Also sacrificing seeing Huddersfield Town v Hull City too, not that the result will be in doubt. :D

Need to check a few things first, but should be there.

This doesn't clash with a Tonbridge home fixture this year, so I may well be in attendance.

As I only live up the road in Oxford, I might just pop down for this. What's the deadline for entry?

Oh and one more thing actually. I know it may not sound like a big deal, but do you use the blue and white tiles at co events? I find it easier to spot with them and never write anything down.

If memory serves, it was white on blue last year, Jonathan. 8-)

But, it would be great to see you at this event. ;) :) :D

Isn't there one more L in the format (LLNLLNLLNLLLLNC)?
I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.

Hey. I think I could make this one, provided I have the day off work :)

Travelling from Worcester, and buses seem to be in operation from Didcot Parkway, so wondered if anyone was driving from that area? Otherwise, I can get into Reading station for 10am. Will that allow enough time to get over to Woodley? I went to the uni last Weds in Reading.. is Woodley on the way? I think I may have seen it.

Look forward to seeing you all there :)

I have replied to Zarte and Adam, but if lifts turn up that may help them.

For those who do get the replacement bus to Reading station, there is a 14 bus from near the station at 10:20
which should get there in time.

COREA features in the March edition of Xn magazine - a free magazine distributed through churches in the Reading area.
Also mentions about when I was on my show and included a photo from same. Anyone an autograph? If so come along on 30th March!

Looks like more than last year's 26 players, if all the possibles come. One of them needs a lift from central London
and another is offering lifts from the north-west, so I have added a new wanted/offered section on the web page.
Please check it out or email me with more.

My Mum has just told me about the XN magazine article and reminded me. I am sad to say that last year's Fighting Spirit winner, my son Ollie, will not be defending his title, but that leaves the way open for me to inherit it.... I'll be there.

If anybody coming into Reading wants a lift to the event please let me know. I have to go through Reading town centre to get to Woodley anyway so I'm happy to give anyone a lift over who needs it.

Just make sure you arrive into Reading in plenty of time as traffic there is usually horrendous!

I heard the standard method is usually to work backwards via one of the nearest multiples of 25.

Heh, have fun in Reading guys while I'm slaving away in a call centre.

Many thanks Tony for a great tournament. Loved the 'Pirates' theme from Matt and the guys/gals - wish we'd have known beforehand as we have a large Jolly Roger flag we could have brought.

Jessica's and my FaceBook pictures from the tournament are now up @ https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 9ed3590f5a

Hope to see you all next year.

Glad I went in the end - I had a blast. It's not every day you can say you went to a Countdown tournament dressed as a pirate and ended up with an inflatable parrot down your top, which is a shame because it was awesome. Cheers to Tony for getting into the pirate spirit/not kicking us out for being lairy/organising the whole thing, and also to Matt Bayfield for coming up with the pirate idea and some genius pirate-themed shout-outs ("ARRRRRRR" every time 'R' came out in the selection, "X MARKS THE SPOT!" when X came out, "ONE LARRRRRRGE", etc). Well done to Mark and Giles for making the final (although damn you both because I didn't want either of you to lose! :( ) - some great spots by Mark and a ludicrous conundrum solve by Giles. Zarte wins, though - he predicted that Mark was going to win after he nearly didn't end up going.

Also: MARCUS CAME TO A CO EVENT!! The day we never thought would come :D

Many thanks again, Tony.

Yet another fantastic event, especially thanks to the "Apto-Pirates"!!! Never again will the letter "R" be just a normal letter in the alphabet. :P

Nice to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too, including Rob Gibney, Jonathan Wynn and especially my good mate, Marcus Hares. ;) :) :D

Am very happy with 4th place, although a tad disappointed at how I lost my game to Thomas Cappleman, taking nothing away from his achievement, but that's how events go sometimes.

And well done to Deeksy for winning again, and to Giles for making the final. Hopefully, a nice appetiser to what we'll see on the show on Wednesday. ;)

Well, time for me to take a back seat, as it's COHUD2 next at the beginning of July. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Look forward to seeing you all there. ;) :) :D  8-) :geek: :ugeek:
