Antigua for a week vs COLIN is surely a no brainer? FUCK Antigua ;)

(Sorry Kai)
(Sorry any Antiguans)

What if Charlie promises to look after Kai for a week...then the Laddimans can enjoy their holiday, even more so in the absence of Kai, and Charlie can have the pleasure of entertaining Kai for the week, starting with COLIN. You know it makes sense!

Not my choice. Obviously, I would have much preferred CoLin. Mum said she did too but the hol was booked, so...

Great idea. Charlie?

It makes great sense to me, although I'll enjoy my holiday anyway Junaid - I'm going with my sister, so no other Laddimans involved, but Tim's got the other three to look after as well - hence why Kai can't come! I'm sure Charlie would love to have Kai for the week - he's such an angel, obedient, helpful, polite, charming etc etc (Charlie that is, not Kai!) I was looking forward to seeing you lot again as well - nevermind, there's always next year.

Ah, I understand now. I'd interpreted Kai's message as meaning that all six of you were going to Antigua.

Anyway, have a great holiday, Naomi. And try not to think of that gorgeous weather we're having in England while you're away. :)

If anyone going to CoLin hasn't sorted their accommodation out yet, there's a room at the Travelodge going free for Friday and Saturday nights, as we won't be using it. :(

If anyone would like to make use of it, let me know.

Hi everyone

I've just heard from the venue the price for lunch will be £3.50 a head, and there will be 20 available (in case anyone changes their mind at the last minute).

Thanks, Ben, for organising once again a really great event. It was lovely to see everybody once again, and some people for the first time. Please pass on thanks to your mum for for the food and the never-ending supply of drinks.

Can't wait for the next event now.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it again. Thanks so much for organising it again and for everyone who turned up. Apterous had obviously played a part as the standard was very high, as was to be expected. Would be interesting to see how many max games were hit.

Well, it's all over bar the shouting, so who did what, won what, wore what and cocked what up?

The theme word for the day was 'football', and the prize of a DVD football trivia quiz (hosted by who else but Sir Jeff Stelling himself) went to Jeremy Miles for his word HEADER in the first round.

The ratings prize, given to the highest-placed player from the bottom ha of the c4countdown ratings, went to 6th-placed Dinos Sfyris for his 4 wins and 353 points.

5th place, with 4 wins and 373 points, was Bevatron Prime himself!

4th place, on 5 wins and 350 points (but not getting his decider with Charlie) was Junaid!

3rd place, with 5 wins and 352 points (skin of teeth time there) was Dan Van, continuing his march up the ratings.

2nd place, with 5 wins and 375 points- exactly matching his COLIN 2008 performance- was the ginger assassin, Jono!

But the winner, unbeaten on 6 wins- only the second time in COLIN history that's ever happened- and 374 points, taking home £20, the COLIN perpetual trophy and free entry into COLIN 2010, is none other than Jon Corby!

Congratulations to all prizewinners, and many thanks to everyone for making the day a success- to my Mum and Mark Tournoff's partner Sue for helping out behind the scenes, to the Church Hall's staff for helping out whenever needed, and most importantly, to the 24 men and women who came and played and made the fifth COLIN the success it was. Best COLIN ever? Quite possibly. :)

I just announced the whole list of results to myself Stelling-style :)

Thanks again for organising a fantastic event Ben, and to everyone involved for making it so brilliant! Bring on CONOT!

Also looking at the points table if I'd been a fraction of a second sooner and beat Junaid to the conundrum I'd have jumped 3 places to 3rd! :x but my rage is reduced knowing I then went on to win a former Champion of Champions in a game with a mega max of 90! Will do the recap of this tomorrow and possibly a few others.

Cheers

Brilliant day, absolutely phenomenal. It just keeps on getting better.

Was great to meet my latest forum heros, like Chris Corby, and rekindle my friendship with my perpetual forum heros, like Howard and Christine.

Really really good day. Loved it. Well done everybody.

What can I say? Absolutely ******* (insert your favourite word) brilliant! Roll on CONOT, be it 9 rounds, 15 rounds or blindhyperfrenchgoatdown. Thanks to Ben, Jill (sp?), Sue, Charlie and any others who helped to make the day run so smoothly. Great to see everyone again and to meet quite a few new people too. And there's still another week of CoC to look forward to on the box. Happy Countdown days, indeed!

Great day and well done Ben for the organisation. Really great to put some faces to names there, like Howard, but most of the people there I knew off the telly....

Not from Countdown though, Crimewatch.

Howard told me he was 1000 in our game. I didn't believe him.

My grandparents are old though, and I like them. Maybe it's got something to do with that. I'm not including Christine in this.

Yep, sweet as a nut, mate. Best Colin ever, and second best event ever (after Conot 08, which had sunny weather and Stewart Gordon hitting an old woman in the eye, neither of which were likely to be recreated this time.) Great to see you all and I had a cracking day despite my dismal performance on the final table; the only time I've reached the top table, I think.

Also I'd like to apologise for the conundrum NAKEDSHIP, which was apparently too hard.

What everyone else said. Great to see you all again and thanks as always to Ben for his tireless effort in organising everything. Bit disappointing from a personal perspective, but it was such an excellent day I didn't really care about being knocked out of contention early.

They say you never forget your first one and indeed I won't. Awesome day, thanks to everyone who made it work, especially Ben. Was fantastic to meet so many legends. Well done Corby for a flawless performance. I was moved by your incredible speech ("yeah I was lucky really, anyone can win so erm....yeah"). Bring on COLIN 2010 !

Incidentally, V Chauhan would like to know if he's in the record books for anything. In particular is 18-23 the lowest joint total in COLIN history?

From COLIN, perhaps, but there was once a joint total of 32 during a televised 9-rounder.

And many thanks to everyone for their kind words, I was surprised last night at just how knackered I was at the end of it, but it was well worth it and then some. COLIN 2010 will be booked at some point in the next couple of weeks, Saturday January 30th is the day to keep free. :)

A superb event-plus-afterparty and well worth looking forward to - as ever! Thanks for a great day. Bee wasn't expecting to be thrown into the lion's den but I think she enjoyed giving it a go!!

Re: Countdown in Lincoln 2009

I cunningly figured I'd leave it long enough before posting here so I could just say "What more can I say?" - but it didn't quite work.

It's simply a whole day of fun, made so by Ben & his mum, and all the people who take part. Even the 4 1/2 hours of driving is great when you've got Nick and Jono in the car. 2 1/4 hours of hearing about lucky hats and new shirts, followed by 2 1/4 hours of "So how many Co-events have you won?", amongst karaoke and "Which snooker player does your countdown style/ability/results best represent?".

So, thanks to everyone, and I hope the newbies on show (Julie, Jeremy, Simon, technically Junaid too, and anyone else I missed) come back to join the rest of us for more.

Oh, and well done again to Corby Jnr - 6 wins against the depth of quality opposition on display is excellent, even if Lucinda is right and they all took bribes...

I can be booked as a motivational or after dinner speaker through my agent.

I am his agent so enquiries throguh me. He also does weddings, Bar Mitzvah's and parties to celebrate the circuimcision of babies. I normally take, as his agent, 10%, except for the last one where I generally take a smaller cut.

Many thanks to Ben and mum for the organisation and food. I had a great day and it was good to meet up again with so many seasoned countdowners. See you all again next year.

Well, what more can I say?

Thanks Ben hugely for organising such a great event, and all the contestants who made it worthwhile. :D :D
I'll definitely try to make it to another event sometime. It was the most fun I've had in years! :)

Haven't checked the DVD recordings yet, since I only got back late Sunday, and I've been busy today, but I'll let you all know how it went before you decide whether you want copies. Should be good! Especially to be able to see some of the games we weren't in.

Thanks Ben and everybody else who contributed to a great day. It was nice to see everyone again and meet a few new faces. Well done to Jon; 6 out of 6 wins all sewn up before the conundrum (I think) is quite impressive in the 9-round format.

I can only echo what everyone said. A great day and cracking afterparty. Even though I was the whipping boy I still enjoyed it. I'm blaiming a crap night's sleep for my below par performance. I'll be back for COLIN '10.

Thought I'd share the photos I took that weekend (not all Countdown related), while I'm trying to sort out the DVD:

With Jeff's permission, I could add his photos, which are much better. :)

Hear hear! :)

Although it was wonderful to meet and sometimes play the greats (it was a pleasure to be trounced by you Jono!), it was also reassuring to come up against players of a similar level to myself.
As long as we have a love of Countdown, that's the main thing. :D
