Due to my laziness in trying to sort out tickets to the hottest football game of the summer (Leicester City vs Real Madrid), I can now come to this. Jack will be coming too.

Entrants list has been updated. If your name isn't on there but should be, let me know and I'll see if I can track down your payment. Still plenty of time to get cashes to me if you're interested but still wavering...

In.

Is there parking at the venue? I'm not sure where in Nottingham I'm staying, so I might be driving.

Epic journey! Looking at Google maps there appears to be parking on site and quite a few spaces. A speed camera right outside the place too.

Driving from somewhere else in Nottingham :) Then again, I'm told Pride is on that day as well, so journeys could be slightly epic!

All is looking well for this on Saturday. :) Just two things-

1. Does anyone have a copy of the ODE3 or the most up to date jimdic/apterous dictionary file they can bring along?

2. There won't be a cooked lunch on offer but if there's enough demand there can be a cold lunch of sandwiches at £1.50 a head.

I'm under the impression that Joseph has a copy, cos I seem to recall him bringing one to CoLei.

Might be an idea to ask him.

Just a quick message to all who are coming to nottingham on saturday. There is quite a large car park attached to the venue but also plenty of on street parking around. Also there is a decent take away cafe about 500yds from the venue that does good food but closes at 2pm. I hope this helps.
see you there.

Sorry to disappoint, but there isn't a McDonalds closeby, the nearest I'd say is about 2.5 miles away, but just up the road is the main 'shopping precinct' in Mapperley where there's loads of shops/cafes (think there's a Domino's pizza as well, dunno when it's open though). And yes, just up the road in the other direction is a very nice sandwich shop. Probably the one Mick's referring to.
Have fun guys :)

I'm going to have to withdraw from the tournament. I'm moving house on Sunday and have no time to pack or clean the house so have to give myself time on Saturday for this. Will be a real shame to miss it but I don't think I can do everything on Sunday before moving. Enjoy it folks.

But seeing as it is 33 minutes walk away I hope someone with a car would be so nice as to pick all the orders up. Otherwise I'm going to dominos.

Sounds good. Do you have to order online to do that or can you ring up? I suppose one of the geeks will have the internet on their phone anyway.

We're all done, shouting included, and it's been a hell of a day. Momentary cock-ups, controversial decisions and entire structural collapses aside, it was a good day, lots of fun was had- especially as we were treated to another nice and hot event.

But onto the actual game. 21 people showed up, so one person each round played 'CJ De Prune' and got a bye win. Four prizes were given out on the day.

The first was to Joseph Krol, whose performanced was judged to be best relative to his projected finishing position, in 8th with 4 wins and 319 points.

3rd place went to Ryan Taylor on 4 wins and 371 points (the highest aggregate of the day).

In 2nd was Richard Priest on 5 wins and 345 points.

Top prize went to Rob Foster on 5 wins and 349 points, just pipping Richard to the post and taking home the trophy, antique book and board game.

Final standings-

Pos Name Wins Points
1 Robert Foster 5 349
2 Richard Priest 5 345
3 Ryan Taylor 4 371
4 James Robinson 4 370
5 Jack Hurst 4 351
6 Jon O'Neill 4 327
7 Matt Bayfield 4 326
8 Joseph krol 4 319
9 Josh Hurst 4 310
10 Mike Brown 3 318
11 Martin Bishop 3 313
12 Tom Chafer-Cook 3 304
13 Gevin Chapwell 3 283
14 Dave Coulthurst 3 254
15 Ian Volante 2 316
16 Lesley Hines 2 284
17 Mick Egan 2 258
18 Matthew Coates 2 255
19 Thomas Carey 2 250
20 James Bradley 2 218
21 Andy Staufenbiel 1 157
22 'C.J. De Mooi' 0 0

Photos to come. :)

Oh come on. 19th? Even worse than I did at CoLei! :o
(Although this may have been the different ranking system. I certainly didn't play any worse! Actually this system is better, because I only won one match at CoLei and the berson below me in the ranks won 3. This is a lot fairer.)

Well done Rob.

This must have been one of the closest Co events. If you got the conundrum in your game first you won the whole thing. If I got it first in mine then I would have won. And then of course the reality that Richard got it first to take 2nd place and Rob to take 1st.

Thanks to Ben for organising a great day and to everyone else for being there and having such a laugh. Obviously top respect to all my opponents on the day, it was great to meet some long-time online friends and see others again :D

Richard could also have won if one of the rounds he lost all day went the other way. Great finale to the tournament, facilitated by my early-day demolition of Robbo.

Overall great day once again. Glad I got to speak to most people for at least a little bit. Good to meet new faces and re-meet old ones. Cheers Ben and Ben's mum. You guys rock.

If I hadn't mucked up that easy numbers I would have got my first CO top ten finish. Instead it's 11th again.

It was good to see everyone again and meet a few new faces. And to play football with some of them. Thanks Ben and Ben's mum for an excellent day.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
I have discovered something that may change who the winner of CoNot is
So, I was looking through my recaps (the ones from the first two games as Lesley has the rest) and I played Rob in game 1. Round 7 was RADWAENFA. I declared WARNED, but Rob declared ARMADA. We gave him the points, but I have now realised that there was no M in the selection. So he should have 6 points less, and as he only won CoNot by a margin of 4 points... :o :o :o :o :o

(no offence Rob)

Apparently there was an "M" in the selection, the way Ben was pronouncing "N". ;-)

I thoroughly enjoyed myself yesterday, with my total of 5 wins (4 during CoNot, then one in darts against Tom C-C), so thank you to all who made the day so much fun.

And Ben, let's have a look at the list of seedings you used to calculate the "most improved" prize! Your seedings always intrigue me...

Sorry for the mix-up fellas! when the round ended, we both declared 6. Then we just showed each other our pads- Tom had WARNED, and I had written down WARNED, WARDEN and (wrongly) ARMADA, imagining the M. I didn't "declare" ARMADA- it seems that this was the word that Thomas wrote down on his game record. I didn't really think this was a problem as there wsa no proper declaration system in place, so I assumed one of the legitimate 6s counted as I showed them to Tom. To be honest I think Rich was robbed of the title, as the AAMPERSAND debacle was a crucial in our game and he got it first, only for me to get GENUFLECT. Who'd have thought there could be so much controversy in a humble community centre? :)

At any rate it was a really fun event, thanks Ben and all involved. Maybe the top 4 at the next Co-event should just fist-fight? :?

I didn't really think this was a problem as there wsa no proper declaration system in place, so I assumed one of the legitimate 6s counted as I showed them to Tom. To be honest I think Rich was robbed of the title, as the AAMPERSAND debacle was a crucial in our game and he got it first, only for me to get GENUFLECT. Who'd have thought there could be so much controversy in a humble community centre? :(

At any rate it was a really fun event, thanks Ben and all involved. Maybe the top 4 at the next Co-event should just fist-fight? :?
Oh right. Well ARMADA was the one you said, and I seem to remember you showing me your paper and having put RADWAEMFA and thEn WARMED, FARMED and ARMADA.

Why don't we just declare you both winners, because Richard got a decent prize aswell!
cheers maus

Yeah there's no issue here. Like you say there wasn't a proper declaration in place. In my game against Matt he declared a 9 so I just said I have a 6 whereas if I'd just spoke sooner and said 6 then he'd have gone 6. And when I played you I noticed you always write down a handful of the max words like BORNITE/BITTERN in one round too.

I think Robbo would take us all.

Controversial stuff in this thread today!

Anyway, just wanted to thank Ben and Gill (or is it Jill?) for another well-organised event. As usual, it was great to meet everyone (again) and as well as some enjoyable and competitive games there was some enjoyable conversation to be had as well. As well as discussing astronomy with Dave Coulthurst and whether homosexuality is caused by nature or nurture with Jono and Gevin at the pub next to the station (amongst other things), I was also treated to a rather loud, drunken rendition of 'Champagne Supernova" on the rather packed train back home. I also had a rather surreal conversation when I changed trains at Peterborough, which went something along the lines of: "Is this the train for March?" "It is, but you might not want to get off there." (This doesn't really capture the intonation; it was a bit like being in a dream sequence and I'd just entered some kind of weird train that was going to Nirvana, although I couldn't smell any strange substances in the air and it was actually going to Colchester...) Just though I'd share that with everyone!

Anyway, roll on the next CO-event, wherever it is!

Why don't you just declare which word you are using? :? The question of someone declaring first is a bit vaguer though in an informal setting, although maybe we should get briefed on stuff like this at the start of CO events. As it though, I think most games are invalid, and by my calculations, I've ended up as the winner.

(Also Rob, even if Richard has got AMPERSAND, you may have still ended up the winner. The later draws depended on who beat who, so everything would have changed. And it was an invalid conundrum, so AMPERSAND wasn't a "correct" solve. You might have seen it first had it been nine letters!)

Just catching up on all the CONOT fun while I've been away in Egypt. Sounds like a great day. Wish I could have been there if I could have flown back a day earlier I would have. I texted Ryan though telling him to send everyone some anagrammy love on my behalf. Did he? He'll be getting a punch in the face if not  Well done to everyone that played and to Rob for winning!

Clutching at straws, I came 9th on points scored, even after I missed the bloody nine. Thanks all! I'm still not sure if the amount of geekery was greater or less than I expected!
