So that concludes a second exciting game of the COOT competition. It had to be said that Richard was the hot favourite going into this game, but Howard certainly did himself justice especially beating Richard in that last numbers round. Both should be big competitors in the quest for the Plate and the main tournament. A big shout out should also go to Jason Cullen who did an excellent job as first time host. Next game Matt vs Matt!

Great recap Dinos :D . I like being the host so I would be more than willing to host your match (providing Heather gets back to you!). Well played to Richard and Howard for putting together an interesting clash with fairly dubious numbers and letters ;)

Hang on a sec! I've just posted in the Coates v Green match that there were no "O"'s selected in the eleven games, and there's none in the eleven rounds here. Summat's up! Comp name needs to be changed from COOT to CEET or CAAT!
I have nothing to declare except my Guinness.

No Os selected in the Wallace-Brittain game either :o  :o

It's a conspiracy to deny O-lovers the chance of glory!!

But yes maybe Countgen does need to be checked Paul, if that's what the hosts so far have been using?

Yes I have been using CountGen2 and I'm baffled that no O's have come out in 3 games. There must be a fault with the system but I can assure you it is not a fix. I have nothing against the letter O

EDIT - I have just randomly clicked all the 40 vowels on CountGen2 and did not get any letter O's again. There has got to be a fault :(

Wow, that's quite a major bug. Surprised I didn't notice it, considering I've watched all 3 of the games so far. Good spot. I wonder how long this has gone unnoticed, Countgen 2 has been around a while hasn't it? Reams! You have a lot of explaining to do. We haven't been playing Countdown at all, we've been playing a cheap, O-less imitation. If any of the 3 losers thus far happen to be O-specialists, and base their game around getting words involving Os, they have reasonable grounds to demand a rematch. However, if Michael Wallace claims that he is an O-specialist, then I will claim that I am one also, and so it will still have been a fair match.

None of the game linked to from here contain a single O outside the cunundrum... this is seriously bizarre.

The whole of COMA was O-less? This gets more extraordinary by the minute. We now have the possibility that the entire COMA competition will have to be voided, especially if there were any O-specialists involved.

Maybe it's all some sick experiment by Soo Reams.

70 vowels?

When the program loads up it says 45 vowels - 75 consonatnts. When Jim worked out the letter distribution, he worked out the following:

A - 13 (only once, in this game)
E - 16 (twice; here and here)
I - 11 (three times)
O - 10 (seven times)
U - 5 (three times, including this one where all five were out within the first six letters games)

This totals 55 so no matter how many games you play, there will be no O's. Its a good idea though  its a way to practice unusual words no with O's in them :D.

Hmmm, I demand all games be replayed with the O's. I cant play to my usual high standard without O's... ;)
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

Actually I'm a specialist in words that don't contain O.

I'm not sure how old this bug is or where it came from, but CountGen hasn't been updated for ages so it could be very old. Well done for finally noticing it. I will find and fix at some point soon.

Yeah, I'm totally an O-specialist.

Maybe.

(so who's responsible for this? I see Soo has claimed he is a non-O specialist, very suspicious...)

There is a link to "old Countgen" on the Countgen page. The letters produced aren't quite as nice but they definitely do contain O's!. Having said that, have just realised it may be configured for 9 rounds.

Shit! All those O words I've been practicing, like OXYMORON and OSMOSIS. Mind you whenever I dish out practice games I always use my primitive set of letters from the Countdown game I won on the show. Plenty of Os in there. Take that technology!
