Co:Lon 2010 results & final standings - Complete!

Post by Michael Wallace »

Hello all, glad to hear everyone seemed to have an OK time yesterday, and well done to Innis for winning.

Unfortunately, it seems the file with the final standings in has gone missing, so I can't yet report them here for posterity. Fortunately, I kept the results sheets, so I can just enter the again. Unfortunately, I can't quite find all of them, so I'll need your help in filling in the blanks...

Edit: I've found the results file! The final standings are as follows...

And since I have them, the results I have are as follows:

29	Alex Bottomore	1	123	279
30	Supee Juachan	0	164	292
Which meant that Innis and Ollie went through to the play-off final, although it was a very close-run thing for second, with Charlie just 11 points behind (after an early Swiss-gambit attempt), and Kirk 14 behind.

So the prize-winners were as follows:

1st place: Innis Carson

2nd place: Oliver Garner

The Mr. Dog overachiever prize: Jeff Clayton

The Ryan Taylor memorial prize went to Kai Laddiman's spot of MILIEUS, although Lloyd's AQUAVIT was a very close second. Special mention goes to Jono for our favourite 'comedy' entry of WOOFTER.

The Julie T memorial prize went to Tom Rowell, for his (optimistic) prediction of 422, which ended up being just 7 points off the correct answer of 429. Honourable mentions go to someone who isn't Mike Brown (I've lost the piece of paper...) who guessed 420, and Martin Bishop, who would have won if Ollie had triumphed in the final.

This may prove a challenge, as this table appeared to degenerate into angry, tile-throwing, beer-soaked chaos.

I do know that Corby and Badcock were tied going into the conundrum. I think Badcock got it, but I'm not sure.

Haha, really? I think that might explain why the results sheet has gone missing too, then (I seem to remember one being soaked in beer, which I presumably threw out).

Actually, I guessed 390, but thanks anyway. :) Brilliant day, by the way, but that's probably another thread...

I'm gutted that a last minute disaster caused me to miss yesterday, but glad it seemingly went well.

May I ask how according to the standings I managed to win one game without attending?!

Aha, well spotted. Your place was taken up by one of my 'buffers' (I brought CF and Alex along to make sure I'd always have a multiple of three players), and I forgot to edit it when copying the details across from one place to another. Fixed now.

What were the requirements for winning the Ryan Taylor prize?

You could nominate any 7 you'd declared during the day as your magnificent seven. It didn't have to score, or even be valid, just made from the letters in a round. There were rumours of an entry of SHITBAG, but we never saw it.

Sound like you all had a great time, sad I wasn't there. Well done for winning, Innis, you rock.

Is this a prize for best word? If so, I'm amazed that whoever decided thought MILIEUS>AQUAVIT, which is clearly not the case.

Hopefully I'll be there next time. :D

Best word, yeah. It was decided by a Mysterious Committee, so don't blame me (even if I was on it...).

That was me. Possible extra credit deserved for (AFAIK) being the first person to make a guess too. Though in my confused hindsight I thought it was Jeff Clayton rather than Tom who had pipped me to it (i.e. cheekily looked at the highest number of points declared by anyone else on the sheet and added 2 points). What was it that Jeff won then?

Jeff won the Mr. Dog overachiever prize (which consisted of a Countdown keyring, a "Des's Little Something" pen, Spreading the Word (courtesy of a certain Mr. Eadie) and a Susie Dent book I thought looked interesting).
