Countdown in London | 22nd May | Registration full!

Post by Michael Wallace »

I am still happy to take names from people who would like to be on a waiting list for drop-outs or extra spaces becoming available. One or two people have said they might not make it, so there's every chance a reservist would get to come along after all. Email me at colondon2010@gmail.com to get involved!

That's right folks. Countdown in London (hereafter to be referred to by all as Co:Lon) will be taking place on 22 May, 2010. Full details are up on the amazing Co:Lon site, and I'm now going to attempt to take registrations.

The key facts:

Registration is £5, but if you can bring a copy of the Countdown board game I'll knock a pound - yes, a whole pound - off the price for you. You don't need to be Rachel Riley to work out that that's a Massive Saving.

To register, send me an email at colondon2010@gmail.com with your name, something saying you want to come to Co:Lon (so I know you're not just trying to enlarge my penis), and whether or not you have a copy of the game to bring. Assuming there are still places left I'll get back to you with how to send me the monies.

The pub doesn't sell food on Saturdays (apparently), so do bear this in mind. Kick-off is at 1pm, so hopefully most people will have time to grab something to eat beforehand, and the pub will still sell snacks and whatnot. I'm hoping to get the chance to drop by the area again nearer the time to scout out possible lunch/dinner venues as well, so watch this space.

If you have any questions, do ask, and I'll see what I can do about answering them for you.

Also, please note that this has been posted just before noon on April 1, just so you can have a little bit of excitement in wondering whether this is just an elaborate April Fool's.

Bonne chance!

As much fun as this looks, I'm not sure I'm quite ready to encounter you lot :P

Loving the site though, Michael, it definitely has a certain 'style' to it.

Don't be daft, come along. It'll be fun.

I'll be smashed by round 2 as it's taking place in a pub, and therefore ripe for the taking. In a Countdown-playing sense, of course.

Myself and Supee are now entered and very much looking forward to it, even though feeling more than just a little nervous already.

Just to say, if you pay me and don't get a confirmation from me within 24 hours, please let me know. As it stands I've processed everyone who has paid me already, so let me know if you think you've paid and I haven't confirmed I've got it.

If my arrangements change nearer the date, I'll check if there are any places still available,.

Hello all, just a quick update to mention a few things:

1) We now have 14 confirmed attendees, with 7 pending. There are only 30 spaces available in total, so you may need to act soon.

2) I've had reports (thanks Kirk) of some of my emails getting eaten by spam folders. I'm generally replying to emails within a few hours (unless you email me in the morning; I only get up at about noon), so if you haven't had a reply from me within 24 hours, it might make sense to send me a PM instead.

3) Er, that's it.

Don't worry, Heather Badcock is on the provisional attendees list, so there's at least two of you, and I'm sure some other attendees wouldn't object to wearing dresses if that would help :)

Heh, I'm not sure how much credit I can take, given that it is clearly the simple allure of Countdown+pub+London that is drawing everyone in. Am a little surprised by the uptake though, at this rate I might have to visit the pub again to see if I think I can squeeze any extra spaces out.

Hmm, they didn't mention it, but I can ask next time I get a chance to drop by. For the time being I'mgoing to stick to the 30 player limit, but might see if there's a chance of one or two more tables.

So with the application of Paul Howe, Co:Lon is now full (pending payments from the 6 unconfirmeds). As I've edited the first post in this thread to say, I'll be having a list for people who want to be standbys, as one or two people have dropped out. I also hope to visit the pub at some point later this month/early next month to see if I can squeeze some extra space out.

Thanks to everyone who's registered and paid, I hope I can provide you with £5-worth of entertainment (assuming, of course, I don't just run off with all your money to Switzerland).

As I've edited my first post to mention, we're full up, but I'm still taking names for a reserve list in case people can't make it or I find there's more space than I realised.

Also, the Co:Lon trophy has been commissioned, pictures to follow whenever they get it made :o

I bet you guys thought Co:Lon couldn't get any more exciting, right? Well to ramp up the excitement EVEN MORE I shall be detailing various Special Prizes that will be available during the day, and to start with we have:

The Ryan Taylor Magnificent Seven Memorial Prize

That's right, in honour of Ryan Taylor, who sadly cannot be with us on the day (and to use up his entry fee so people can't accuse me of embezzling it), there will be a Mystery Prize (note: all prizes may well be a Mystery for a while) for the player who submits the most Magnificent Seven of the day.

"This sounds amazing! Whatever do you mean?" I hear you cry/type.

Well, in your Exclusive Co:Lon 2010 Welcome Pack you'll find a Magnificent Seven entry form. At any point during the day, if you declare a seven letter word in one of your games you can enter it onto this form, get your game host to sign it off, and then submit it to me. At the end of the day the most Magnificent Seven will be chosen, and the person who submitted it will get the Mystery Prize. Of course, you only get to submit one seven letter word for this prize, so choose wisely, and be careful! You have to choose to submit the word at the time you declare it. No finding yourself at the end of game 6 thinking "ooh, I'll submit that word from game 1".

Any questions? Just ask. And stay tuned for more news!

The bespoke Co:Lon trophy is finished. My camera is broken, so I've had to make do with a shoddy webcam to bring you pictures, but it is such an awesome trophy I'm sure even if my camera didn't work at all you'd see how amazing it is (maybe).

The current holder is a fearsome individual, you'll do well to drag it out of his hands^W paws.

Ok, so you can't really see what it is beyond a lump of glass, have a close-up.

WHO WILL BE THE CO:LON MASTER 2010??!?!?!!111
