Next online Countdown tournament

Post by Martin Gardner »

I know COMA is now coming to an end and hopefully people are still impatient to play, so I thought I'd start up a new online MSN Countdown tournament. I know organisers are really hard to find so I thought I'd just do it myself. Provided nobody else want to organise one, that is.

Anyway leave your name on this thread and you'll be entered. I'm thinking of some sort of three-to-a-group group stage followed by semi-finals and a final, so I think 12 would be a perfect number for this format, although other formats will be considered based on the number of entrants. Please don't put your name down if you don't have sufficient free time in the evenings to complete the games, s'îl vous plait!

Anyway I'd better put my own name down.

If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

Get off my toes sunshine, COOT IV is soon and I'm organising it. Well, that's what was arranged, anyway. As there is no CO-politics I can't stop you from running your own tournament simultaneously.

If that's the case, I'm in. Otherwise, I'm sure we can work out some sort of joint-custody settlement.

I'd like to play but alas my Finals loom. If you need a wildcard sometime in June then, err, you know where to find me.

It has been tried before but without much success, and as my attempts at doing an online Scrabble league have proved, it can be astonishingly time-consuming.

If you are looking for any spectators (not players), I don't mind watching :).

I didn't know there was another COOT being organised. Since I don't really like organising things online, I'd rather leave it to Jono and perhaps organise another tournament after that if people are still wanting to play, does that sound fair?

Yeah as Ben said it is very time consuming and I'd rather let someone else do it... so I will!

No problemo. This doesn't seem like a bad thread to start though, so carry on posting here if you want entry. I think I should be able to conduct all communication through the boards.

I'll give it a few weeks though before the start to let COOT finish and give everyone who hasn't played online before a chance at accustoming themselves to the discipline.

Oooh, given the new faces this looks like it could be a good one. I, as always, would like to enter and expect to, yet again, meet my nemesis, Corby.

I might be interested depending on times and dates.
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

I'm up for COOT. I must admit I was theoretically in a previous one and never played but that one went on for a long time with not much happening. I'm sure COOT 4 will be an organizational triumph.

Since we are already nearly finished the last COOT (please post Paul or Conor when you intend to play so I can watch it) perhaps this new tourney could be started? Obviously, it's down to Jono since he is the mastermind behind this one.

I'm not planning to start until a couple of weeks after the COMA has finished. I'll make some posts about it when COMA is done with.

Does anyone have any inkling as to when this COMA final match is expected?

Would the delay be possibly due to exams?

Probably is due to exams, which I can well appreciate can't be avoided, but I still want COMA finished promptly.
