Countdown in Edinburgh 2019 - Saturday 23rd February

Post by Zarte Siempre »

After a 4-year hiatus, Innis and I are thrilled to be bringing Countdown back to it's spiritual holiday home North of the border. Countdown in Edinburgh (COEDI) is back!

We very much hope you'll be joining us in Scotland's capital (and the home of the original fandom) on Saturday 23rd February for a day of letters, numbers, good fun (and bad jokes) as part of FOCAL 2019. As in all such events, you’ll get the chance to test your skills with some friendly games of Countdown with like-minded folk, as well as a variety of side competitions and diversions, with a range of weird and (arguably) wonderful prizes to be won.

Courtesy of Edinburgh’s own Iain Sime, the event will be taking place at the New Melville Bridge Club in Corstorphine, a short bus/car journey (or a somewhat longer walk) from the city centre, and conveniently located just across the road from a Holiday Inn for those of you travelling from sunnier, but almost certainly less charming climes. The venue will feature a bar and unlimited tea and coffee, as well as the possibility of a quick lunchtime game of bridge for those of you so inclined.

Doors will open at 10:30am for an 11am start – those of you who’ve taken part in events like this before may be interested to note that games will be played in the traditional style invented by none other than the legendary Edinburgh Countdown Club (that is, in tables of three, with one person dealing the letters and numbers for the other two to play with). Entry will be £13 per person, payable either on the day or via PayPal to innis_carson@hotmail.co.uk.

All are very welcome, whether you’re a fan of the TV show, a veteran of Countdown tournaments, or simply someone who fancies giving it a go – if you’re interested in taking part, or have any queries at all about the event, please feel free to contact either myself or Innis and we’ll be more than happy to respond (although Innis will be the one to turn to for any local knowledge...)

Hope to see you there! 😊

We're up to 9 with a little less than 6 weeks to go. Would be good to see a few more names on our attending list though - although the ones we have already are most excellent!
