We have decided it will not be part of FOCAL just yet.

We'd rather presumed you had decided as we e-mailed you in September and didn't receive any acknowledgement.

No issue in principle with Reading being a part of FOCAL under the terms that all other events are, however all events were asked to be confirmed 6 months prior if they were old events, or 3 months prior if new. I did attach something that said that when I tried to make contact.

If we need to add pages to the website, and try and publicise etc. though, we really need the time to be able to work on that. So if you are genuinely considering it, could you let us know by the last day of the month please - otherwise we'll presume that you're happier being an independent event.

Either way, best of luck with it - hope it goes well :)

OT: 954. ((25x3x2)+10-1)x6 (7)
Score: 12-19 (max 19)

Graeme gets near to an impossible target and Rob forgets his method - one away was possible and got
by some of the audience.

Teatime teaser: BARGAINED -> GABARDINE (North American variant on GABERDINE)

Round 4: T L N E E I T P U

Rob: ENTITLE (7)
Graeme: ENTITLE (7)
OT: LUNETTE (7), PENTILE (7)
Score: 19-26 (max 26)

Score: 25-32 (max 32)

Rob: -. (0)
Graeme: 568. (((9x10)+6)x6)-(4x2) (10)
Score: 25-42 (max 42)

Graeme selects a tactical six small selection and Rob fails to get it, giving Graeme a 17 point lead.

Tony shows a picture of the Ugandan school latrines with the church name on, built thanks to the money raised
for the Mitaya Charity the previous year, and mentions that word games are good for the brain.

Round 7: R N S L O E A G O

Rob: ARENOSOL (8)
Graeme: sonoral (0)
Score: 33-42 (max 50)

Graeme was thinking of sonorant. Arenosol is a soil of a type consisting mainly of sand, with little
humus or clay, found typically in deserts and arid tropical regions.

Round 8: R T N E O I T N I

Rob: TRETINOIN (18)
Graeme: TONTINE (7)

Rob: enjamb (0)
Graeme: UNBAN (5)
OT: JAMUN (5), MANEB (5), MUNJA (5), NUMEN (5), UNMAN (5)

Graeme: BETTED (6)
Score: 67-53 (max 89)

They each get one of the sixes available.

of the home of Only Connect won recently by the Verbivores, two of whom (Graeme
and Phyl) were present (Tom was in India).

Round 12: M L L E I A Z C S

Rob: MISCALL (7)
Graeme: MISCALL (7)
OT: MICELLAS (8)
Score: 74-60 (max 97)

A miscall from both players: micellas (or mycellas) are the same as micelles,
aggregates of molecules in colloidal solutions, such as those formed by detergents.

Round 13: K T R D I U E E O

Rob: ETOURDIE (8)
Graeme: OUTRIDE (7)
Score: 82-60 (max 105)

Rob outrides Graeme with the Darrenic eight to get an uncatchable lead, though he is lucky
as only étourdi is valid in Oxford Online - a thoughtless, irresponsible, or foolish person
(especially a man); a scatterbrain.

Round 14: 50, 25, 100, 75, 2, 10. Target: 881.

Rob: 877. (100x10)-75-50+2 (7)

OT: 880. ((((100+50)/25)x75)-10)x2 (7)
Score: 89-67 (max 112)

Final Score: 99-67 (max 122)

So Rob Foster becomes the COREA champion for 2017.
