Co-event spreadsheet and stats

Post by Ben Wilson » Sun Nov 16, 2014 12:41 pm

With CoHud over, bringing the total number of co-events over the last 10 years to an impressive 43, I felt it was time I cobbled together some results into an easy(ish)-to-read spreadsheet format the whole community can enjoy. So, here it is- http://www.nebagram.co.uk/coeventresults.xls (the 'points' system on sheet 2 is based on formula 1 scoring, with 25 points for a win, 18 for 2nd etc etc)

It covers the top 10 of every co-event ever, with a few omissions- full results from Co:Lon 2011 are missing, presumed dead (Michael Wallace's laptop died literally on the journey home from the pub. I blame Innis for this- his not winning must've caused the hard drive to die from shock) and I'm missing the top 10 from CoLei 2011 (I have the top 4 in order and the beaten quarter-finalists, but nothing else). However, there's still more than enough info there for some statty goodness.

Some of the more interesting things to come from the data-

-There have been 19 different winners and 35 different podium finishers (1st-3rd) from 43 co-events. So much for the same people winning all the time!
-There's a 4-way tie for the person to have won the most co-events- Chris Wills, Kirk Bevins, Innis Carson & Jack Worsley have 5 each.
-Kirk has finished in the top 10 at 58% of all co-events. I don't just mean 58% of all co-events he entered, I mean 58% of all co-events full stop.
-Stewart Gordon has the most top 10 finishes for someone who has not yet finished in the top 3 (or even top 5, for that matter).
-I am the only player to have finished in every position between 1st-10th at a co-event (assuming you take beaten quarter-finalists as all having finished 6th. Which you should). 3 other people have finished in 9 out of 10 possible finishing positions- Matt Bayfield (never finished 8th), Richard Priest (never finished 4th) and Jono O'Neillo (never finished 5th).
-Paul Howe still has the most runner-up finishes for someone to have not (yet) won an event.
-Ryan Taylor and Graeme Cole are tied for the most 3rd place finishes for anyone who hasn't finished 1st or 2nd (yet), assuming again you take beaten semi-finalists as both having finished 3rd.
-Rob Foster is the only person to have won a co-event but not have a podium finish at any other (yet).
-Everybody but one person who finished in 4th or higher at a co-event has had a top 10 finish at at least one other tournament. The one exception? Julian Fell, who finished second at CoNot 2008, his first and only co-event.

Feel free to have a play around with the spreadsheet yourself, and if you want to help contribute to it, the best way is by playing in said events, in particular COLIN XI this coming January. :)

Really? I'd say 5th, 6.5th or undefined. But not 6th.

I went for '6.5th rounded up' if it makes you feel any better.

I'm expecting a huge attendance at my soon-to-be-planned Co-Abu Dhabi.

Stewart Gordon told me that CoHud yesterday was his 21st co:event. Is that a record number of events attended, and if not, what is the record? (Sorry if I have mistaken this topic for an 'Ask Ben' thread).

Kirk's attended at least 25 (that's how many top 10 finishes he has). I imagine Jon O'Neill and Mike Brown have a very high attendance record too. The data for attendances is all on the wiki, but as you'd imagine it'll take a hell of a lot of effort to enter every co-event entrant's, umm, entrances onto a spreadsheet. This didn't stop me from trying, mind you- before CoStAl, the total number of different people to have played in a co-event stood at 267.

OK, but really you still need to finish 6th in a CO event.

Good work and I never realised that 10th was my lowest position in a CO-event. #brag

Pressure on this next COLIN then...
