Interesting tactic by Dylan, taking on one of the best ever four large players at his own game. It's not imediately obvious and both players screw up.

What's going on here? First Dylan goes for four large against Jono and now Jono tries six small against a six small specialist, in a last ditch attempt to force a crucial conundrum.

Round 9: A T P A C H O I L

C2 buzzes on 4.5 seconds to say APTAHOLIC which is incorrect.
C1 buzzes on 25 seconds to say POACHTAIL which is incorrect.
The answer was CHIPOLATA.
Score: 35–49 (max 70)

An APTAHOLIC^ is probably someone who's addicted to playing online Countdown but it's not in the dictionary, and neither is Jono's inventive guess, so it turns out to be a low-scoring game. I thought losing to Dylan would give me a slightly easier draw for round 3. I was drawn to play one-time record octototal holder and Series 60 champion Kirk Bevins, as well as the reigning series champion and surely the fastest improver ever, Callum Todd. What could possibly go wrong? ;)

I tend to check everything that's even slightly unusual (particularly if I offer it myself). I'm sure there's occasions where the other two people on my table get fed up as they're both insistent that it's in (even if they haven't both declared the same word) but nine round games are so volatile that you just have to be sure.

An unlucky start by David, clearly not weller now. :P

OT: SUNYATA (7)
Score: 6–19 (max 19)

I wonder if Zarte sought inspiration from my silly guess in the last game :?: :P

Round 4: 75, 25, 2, 4, 9, 8. Target: 698.

C1: 698. (9 x 75) + 25 - 2 (10)
C2: 698. (75 x 8) + (25 x 4) - 2 (10)

C1: 872. Timed out. :(
C2: 871. (8 x 9 x 3 x 2 x 2) + 7 (7)
RR: 872. ((((9 x 2) - 2) x 7) - 3) x 8 (10)
Score: 58–78 (max 81)

David clearly had the answer, and I knew what he was trying to say, but unfortunately he was stuttering so much, that I had to time him out unfortunately, and that also knocks out the MAX game for Zarte, but at least the win is now secure. :D

Round 9: T R E N D O I D U

C1 buzzes on 2 seconds to say ERUDITION which is incorrect.
C2 does not buzz.
The answer was OUTRIDDEN.
Final Score: 58–78 (max 91)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Well, let's move along, shall we :?:

So, me vs. Zarte to finish off today, with Zarte needing a big score to try and make a late burst for 2nd place behind Jack Hurst.

Score: 21–13 (max 21)
