"APTEROUS" on Countdown
Is it just me, or is there a palpably weird and knowing atmosphere in the studio every time APTEROUS comes up as a DC max on Countdown? It's kind of like in Harry Potter when someone dares to say "Voldemort" rather than "he who must not be named". Susie has a slightly excited exp...

Re: So, who will be the founding member of Countdown's "1000 CLUB"?
Oh, and who's Toby Pereira? Whoever he is, he probably ought to go on. You got me there, Heather. Just a name I made up on the spot to see if people were paying attention, (much like 'L'oisleatch McGraw', come to think of it). But yeah, if he does exist out there somewhere, and assuming he hasn't b...

Re: So, who will be the founding member of Countdown's "1000 CLUB"?
I think aiming for it would be more likely to hinder than help. Not to mention be a bit twatty. We had Judge Judy, and now we've got Judgemental Jen! Come on! Not all openly ambitious / competitive people are twatty... I'd actually admire the straightforward honest ambition of a Dylan Taylor ...

Re: So, who will be the founding member of Countdown's "1000 CLUB"?
for those of us for whom the prospect of possibly becoming series champion isn't even motivation enough to apply for televised Countdown, I doubt the lure of scoring 1000 is likely to be an incentive. I hear ya. However, when you consider that there have already been 74 series champions, it's not a...

So, who will be the founding member of Countdown's "1000 CLUB"?
So, Countdown has had the 800 club, then Julian Fell smashed through 900, and was the solitary member in the 900 club for quite some time. Recently the 900 club has expanded, and seems easier to enter than it once was. Surely it’s only a matter of time before someone founds the 1,000 club? It’s like...

Re: Playing along with TV: Trial Octorun
The reason I posed the question is that I've just done this for the first (but certainly not the last) time. Without any advance knowledge of how tough it would be, or whether any prodigious Apterites were due to appear, I randomly chose the most recent 8 episodes (i.e.from 6467-6474) to play. I dec...

Playing along with TV: Trial Octorun
Do you ever properly play along with TV and try become a (virtual) Octochamp?
If so, how many times have you done this, and how many times did you win 8 in a row?

Hi, Nick. I don't post on the forums much, but I can say I definitely did not cheat in the games played against you. Charlie's right, I did used to cheat, but I haven't for a while now. Well that's news to me! Young Nguyen took my Aptovirginity in October 2010... i.e. right in the middle of his che...

Re: Best ever contestants
Nah, I couldn't agree with a top ten that contains just 2 or 3 players from Countdown's golden era. (i.e. from approx S58-S73) ;) For me I would use a very simple mathematical formula as a baseline for calculating 'greatness' in the game. i.e. Percentage maximums during their original run. That's it...

Re: Best ever contestants
So the best 5 ever in the show's 31 year history don't include anybody that Richard Whiteley would ever have heard of? Absurd! Is it though? It's like the way the Williams sisters raised the bar in women's tennis... Apterous has changed the landscape of Countdown forever, and though there may have ...

Re: Who is better: Carol Vorderman or Rachel Riley?
I found Carol quite annoying, so I prefer Rachel, even though I also find her a bit annoying. Rachel's obviously very intelligent having done maths at Oxford and she's very good at the numbers, but listening to all her conversations with Nick (and previous host(s)), she comes across as really dull....

Re: Who is better: Carol Vorderman or Rachel Riley?
I know this is pretty much a dead topic, but I think it's worth pointing out that when Countdown had four million viewers, most of them probably tuned in to see Richard and Carol, with only a passing interest in the game show going on in the background. Woah, go easy on the member berries! ;) I dou...

I love them both.

I'm still waiting for the Carol vs. Rachel Christmas special.
...or failing that, at the very least, the Rachel vs. Susie edition.

Tut tut, you forgot Apterous dictionary corner :) I didn't forget that. It was deliberately excluded... as Zef should have been. What I wanted to put here is a list of Apterites who have yet to go on TV. So really, anyone on that list who has never been on Apterous should be deleted from it. There ...

Re: Organised Religion
Of the codes of conduct that are out there, Christianity is a pretty good one imo. It is certainly preferable to smug liberalism, and/or market economy values... which are the current driving forces behind Western society. According to my beliefs, it is quite unlikely that we will just 'rot in the g...

Re: Welcome! - Post here first
Hi! It's weird being able to post here. I first inadvertently came across the forum (whilst searching -desperately- to find 'Apterous'... it is not easy to find!) back in 2010, but between one thing and another have not become a full member till today. On TV, a contestant named Jack Hurst indirectly...
