Re: The Mathmo Test
I'm not a fan of that test really although 1728 and 1729 do mean things to me!

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 22nd January 2008
I agree that it's not that hard but in fairness, an equivalent problem recently proved too difficult for K. Bevins BSc Maths (Hons). Indeed this problem proved too complicated for me. I have no understanding of arrangements or combinations. I know how to calculate factorials and know how to calcula...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 25th January 2008
Ah, so the key to beating Conor is have a round with rubbish letters in - I managed AUDIT and DAVIT but missed VAPID. DC-Equaller in round 8 with DELISTS. I missed TIRAMISU though which was a fantastic spot but you should have gone for LORIMER - a common Countdown word. I managed to get my own back ...

Re: Forum hints & tips
No worries Soo, we can all learn together, and then post it in this thread. Despite repeatedly checking the "log me in automatically" box as well, I keep finding that not only does it not log me in automatically, but also seems to randomly log me out mid-session from time to time.... Or j...

Ben, do you want me to bring my (heavy, so I'd rather not) dictionary to COLIN. It's ragged, dirty, missing covers and pages ripped, but all the words are in piece - or will you have enough?

Re: Spoilers for Thursday 24th January (Davids 1st game)
Personally I don't mind - everyone probably beat me as I was a retard but I don't care! David may have other opinions though. Oh, and David beat me today quite convincingly, even with me getting the conundrum (quality ORISONS and 721!)

Paranormal
So - let's continue the debate about the paranormal.
I was just watching a 40 minute documentary on youtube about ghosts and can't find it now. The enfield poltergeist case was also on youtube but that no longer seems to exist, although you can still watch it on 4od.

Not strictly true. Paul Howe and I have beaten Chris at CO-events, we just didn't go on to win it!Mike Brown wrote: I also try to attend the CO- events and, like everyone else, get beaten by Chris Wills.

Re: Spoilers for Monday 21st January 2008 [Winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
I think what Conor is saying is that even adding the 1 on before multiplying doesn't "stand out" to a lot of contestants. 75 lots of 9 add 1 lot of 9 gives 76 lots of 9 is constantly taught (in algebraic form) in maths lessons, yet contestants seem to find it baffling.

damn, I had OLEASTERS but Conor is always there first - much before I watch the show on channel 4 +1. I knew I shouldn't have got excited about a beater with Mr Travers around.

Re: Welcome!
Hi. I'm Kirk Bevins, a 21 year old trainee secondary school mathematics teacher. I was on Countdown in series 50 when I was 17. I lost my first game due to nerves and now partly wish I'd held the application back as I want a serious crack at being an octochamp. Oh well. I'm glad I got to meet Richar...
