Eh? What rests on her shoulders?
I just mean that she is the last link from what was the holy trinity of Richard/Carol/Susie.
I think Damian knew that and was simply asking what an 'alot' was.

Joseph Bolas wrote:Well done to everyone who got the answer "nothing".
Not a terribly satisfactory answer. E.g. it would seem to imply that "nothing is greater than god", which might be your opinion but certainly isn't mine, preferring as I do to ascribe greatness to things that exist.

Re: Suzie

Just to say she does a great job, especially putting up with some of the creepy partners she has in DC. (Giles [sic] Brandreth anybody?) Whenever Brandreth is on I always want to yell at the TV, "Stop invading her personal space!" He'll make some asinine remark that he thinks is funny, sm...

Or FIFTEENTH, or SIXTEENTH. Nothing unique about them. The extraordinary thing about WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER SEVENTEEN is that, of all the possible weekdays, months and non-hyphenated cardinals, each of those is uniquely 9 letters.

Re: Wednesday 17th September 2008, Series 59 Game 43

A shame no one remembered to mention that today was National Countdown Day - if I'd only joined this forum a couple of months earlier I certainly would have done. For those who don't recall, NCD was declared on this date in 2003 by Richard Digance. This year has the first NCD since then; and the nex...

Re: Where were you?

I guess that the death of Princess Diana would be a major 'where where you?' of our times. However, as it was in the early hours of a Sunday morning most of us would have found out the same way - bleary eyed, eating our breakfast, in front of the TV news. I was standing at a urinal in the pub I'd g...

Thought I'd bump this thread to see if any of our newbies since Charlie's plug have been on the Weakest Link. Having been on the show in 2003, I'd say luck plays a major role - not only in the questions you get asked, but also in how fairly your team mates vote. I was also lucky to be on a strong t...

Sad I know, but this had me thinking of how Variety magazine might break the news that Countdown: The Movie had been greenlit, including the announcement "C. Reams Will Helm". Which is very nearly an anagram.

You are looking for a two-word answer that connects the bigger words :D and a hint would be "Sound Dialogue" :) Well, I recognise quite a lot of the highlighted phrases as film titles, but (even assuming they all are) that doesn't help me answer the question 'What am I?' - unless the answ...

I also noticed the edit of MAGISTERS being behind Carol after round 5 and then in round 9 out it came. Just goes to show the tight production schedule on which the show is run. Most other game/panel shows spend lots of time recording shots of each participant pretending to react to what's going on,...

I rhink it was Jan Ravens that once did a brilliant send-up of Carol laughing like a hyena bent double at everything that Richard Whiteley said - and not laughing at much better jokes from anyone else in the studio. Yeah, I remember that. She hasn't been invited back to DC since then, have you noti...

Collins English Dictionary spells it without the hyphen. And so do I. So that's two sources to the OED's one. I win.

The laboured and overlong introductions to the DC guest, which she sort of knows off by heart, but not quite, meaning that she has to keep pausing mid-sentence to look at her cue card.

Re: Careful Editing of Countdown

A couple of weeks ago (may have been when Charlie was playing - can't remember now) I spotted an 8: SHITTIER. Both contestants declared 8, one with a sheepish smirk which led me to believe he'd made the same spot. There was then a rather obvious cut (or so it seemed to me at the time), after which b...

But PREDATE (meaning to assign an earlier date to) isn't a back formation and surely that's been around for a while? That's PRE-DATE. Yes, the ODE is a strange beast. In that second zero game, why was PREDATED disallowed? Because it wasn't in the dictionary of the time.
