Easier to spot 111 x 9 = 999 than 27 x 37.
In the 287 Tony's way of saving the 13 and make the 4 a different way to x 75 by is a lot simpler than 72 x 4 - 1.
Seemed to be some unnecessarily complicated solutions today.

Also thought it was a bit weird but the scores weren't that close so no real need to try to gain an advantage.

I suppose the only consolation for Tom, is that Antoinette didn't spot UNCLAMPED. If Tom had been declaring 2nd he would have probably gone for the 9 because Antoinette would have only declared an 8 and he only had a 7 otherwise. Wonder if it affected how he played afterwards? Hard to tell really, ...
