Re: Spoilers for Wed 17 June 2009 [Series 60 1st SF]

I'm glad it was good to watch, but to be honest that was really devastating. I expected to get beaten comfortably, as I said on yesterday's show. But to come so close makes it more difficult to take. I suppose I shouldn't really have any regrets- I did far better than I thought I would do in J...

Re: Four 4s

I should know this, but isn't there a function (for lack of the proper name I'll call it phi) that adds up all the numbers from 1 to x? i.e. Phi(x)= 1+...+x Is this allowed? Then 3= Phi(sqrt4) which only uses one 4 to make 3, and makes our task a lot easier. Also, is my way of making 3 from two 4's ...

Re: Channel 4 puts archives online

Oh man, I really hope they put X-fire on, that show was *awesome*, and I can't find it anywhere. Was that the show that was basically televised paintball? If so, I concur, that was great! It was, where they had those people who were meant to be, like, elite paintballers, in hilarious costumes, who ...

Round 12: L E T C A D A O E C1: - C2: COATED (6) DC: LOCATED (7) CLEATED (7) Score: 28–60 (max 88) A couple of easy 7s missed by both players, but Neil still takes the points and is looking pretty unassailable now. Re: Spoilers for Tues 16 June 2009 - Series 60 4th QF

That was easily the worst of the quarter-finals wasn't it? It felt at the time like we were both playing rubbishly, but having seen it again, the letters were horrible, as were the numbers. Easiest round was the conundrum! From a quick look at the recap, I still got 9 maxes, although it seemed...

James must be kicking himself really. If he'd got the (very easy IMHO) second numbers, he'd've won by a point. Entertaining game to watch, obviously I can appreciate it a lot more now than last time I saw it. I didn't realise it was so close! I do feel a bit silly for getting 'Centarian' both times ...

I can make a very good approximation to 3, by doing 3= 4-sqrt(sqrt...(sqrt4)))...) which tends to 3, and only uses two 4's. Similarly 5= 4+sqrt(sqrt...(sqrt4)))...) We can then do things like 51= 4!+4!+3 45= 4!+4!-3 93= 4!*4-3 99= 4!*4+3 91= 4!*4-5 53= 4!+4!+5 and so on. But presumably I'll be told ...

Re: Apterous League Championship

I was thinking the other day that you could make quite a good TV game show based on apterous. Maybe on a "winner stays on" kind of format, dunno, haven't really thought it through much. I dunno - you could have a situation where one player is really good and keeps winning so I'd probably ...
