Re: How many Numbers puzzles are there in total?

I'm okay with an imperfect answer, I'm sure we can get somewhere with a bit of stochastic hill climbing or some such. (I haven't tried this myself yet but it would make an interesting contest I reckon.) Hill climbing methods don't seem directly applicable here, since everything in sight is discrete...

For the hardest, it might be something stupid like 11, 12, 13, 14 or even 100, 99, 98, 97. Yeah, I think 97-100 is a good shout. Charlie, I'll be able to answer that question restricted only to 4L picks in the next few days. Over all picks 6S to 4L, it seems to me to be intractable to get a complet...

Great topic, enjoyed reading all this!

Harder question: if one were designing a new variant, which four large numbers (in the range 11-100) make the game hardest (i.e. fewest games solvable) and which easiest (i.e. most games solvable)?

Thanks for fixing this. If you're likely to leave pages under construction for a while, it might be useful to define a template saying so and use that everywhere. That also makes it easier for you to find the unfinished pages later.
