I think this would beat Jim because as far as I understand, you automatically work backwards with ^ anyway so Jim's brackets are not required and end up as waste! More to follow. I started doing this myself as well but got bored before 1000 characters, as you'll see if you read on. I think if I was doing it again, I'd say about 250 or 300 (not 20 though).
