Re: What TV programmes have you been watching lately?
Is this actually some sort of aversion towards comedy specifically during 'the period of national mourning' or is it just that the extra broadcasts (funeral, tributes, 'lying in state, etc.) have squeezed the schedules so that lots of shows have to be postponed? If the former, I really don't get tha...

Not to the same extent, no, so perhaps there is something extra to the god-loving compared to the monarch-loving. I think for a lot of people the monarch is at least symbolically part of their day-to-day experience though. Just as they might consider religion (figureheaded by a god) as a major part ...

Tornado is really good by the way, the ending was immaculately performed and if Stew's comments on a recent podcast are to be believed, the TV version of it will feature a special guest appearance that should make it even better. I strongly recommend you watch it when it eventually is broadcast.

Monarch and God are concepts that fulfil very similar sociological roles, or even the same role. I saw the shows live a few weeks before they were filmed. Slightly odd that the BBC has broadcast Snowflake first as that actually was performed after the interval, with Tornado before it. There's even one slight callback joke early in Snowflake that subtly refers back to a theme of Tornado so would...

Euphemisms like 'meat' actively remove emotion from the topic, but in doing so they obscure the truth I'm not sure I'd really call "meat" a euphemism. It may lessen the impact of what is being talked about (compared to e.g. "animal corpse"), but it's a word that's been around fo...
